It was the turn of the Goalkeepers to get their fair share of coverage as Football Wagga Wagga hosted its first ever goalkeeping certificate course at Gissing Oval in Wagga as former Socceroo Jim Fraser took charge of the evening.

Football Wagga Wagga Coaching and Development Manager Liam Dedini was delighted with how the course was conducted and was looking forward to the second instalment in late August.

“Football Wagga Wagga was very happy to have had the experience of Jim Fraser come to town to showcase his experience of goalkeeping with 10 local coaches.

“The course has helped educate many coaches the basic skill in regards to goalkeeping.

“These coaches can now go back and take these skills to their local clubs.

“Six young goalkeepers from Wagga Wagga also got to attend and gain knowledge and extra training from a different level.

Fraser was full of praise of Dedini and noted the quality of the young shotstoppers that attended.

“Whoever is coaching these young players is doing a fantastic job,” before realising that Dedini was coaching them.

Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez was happy to have seen the course take shape at Wagga Wagga.

“I am pleased that we were able to offer this course for the first time in Wagga Wagga.

“Not only are local coaches benefitting from the course, but Liam and Mick Godbier from South West Slopes FA are also being mentored with the long term aim of being able to offer the course locally under the guidance of Jim Fraser.

“This move will ensure all our Associations will be more than capable of running their own courses which is a key objective of the Coaching Department.”
