Football NSW appoints Gary Van Egmond as Head of Elite Football Development and Education

Football NSW is pleased to announce the appointment of Socceroo Gary Van Egmond as its new Head of Elite Football Development and Education.

Van Egmond will oversee high performance and talented player programs as well as mentoring coaching staff and establishing a network of coach developers in creating a system where clubs are the focus with Football NSW supporting and guiding their endevours.

Van Egmond brings extensive experience to the newly created role, having previously been the Academy Director of the Emerging Jets program as well as being the head coach of Hyundai A-League team the Newcastle Jets from 2006-2009 and then again from 2011 till 2014.

Van Egmond was with the Australian Institute of Sport as Senior Coach and Under 17 National Team Assistant Coach as well as being the Australian National Women’s Under 20’s head coach and the Matildas Assistant.

Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge was pleased with the announcement and was eagerly anticipating the former Socceroo representative’s arrival.

“Football NSW is delighted to announce the appointment of Gary van Egmond which will lift the program’s capacity to better identify and develop world class players alongside elite and community coaches.”

“Gary has a wide range of experience across all levels of our game as well as having a good track record when it comes to identifying youth prospects as well as coaches.

“We are looking forward to his tenure at Football NSW and congratulate him on his appointment.”

Van Egmond was looking forward to working with Australia’s largest member football federation with his focus in ensuring that NSW maintains its high level of quality for both developing players and coaches.

“It is with great pleasure that I accept the new role at Football NSW as the Head of Elite Football Development and Education.

“I’m really looking forward to working with all stakeholders to continue the growth of football within the Football NSW landscape.

“NSW is the premier state and it is vital that we are the leading state in regards to football across all areas.

“There will be plenty of challenges ahead of where we will need to continue or change with a transparent plan, so we are inclusive to the whole football family, but I cannot wait to sink my teeth into this new role.”

Van Egmond will commence as Head of Elite Football Development and Education in October 2017.
