Stamatellis agrees to Hakoah Sydney City East

Hakoah Sydney City East have confirmed its first player appointment for the new season agreeing to terms with former Sydney Olympic defender Mitchell Stamatellis.

The talented defender who made the 2017 Ultra Football Team of the Year, was headhunted by Gavin Rae and his scouters in a bid to sure up its defence for the new season.

Stamatellis was looking forward to the new challenge but thanked Sydney Olympic for their professionalism during his time.

“I have been lucky enough to play for two great clubs in Sydney United 58 and Sydney Olympic.

“Both have a long and successful football history.

“Now, I am fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to play for Hakoah, arguably one of the most successful clubs in NSW.

“I am looking forward to representing the club and the local community where I have grown up.

“I would also like to thank Sydney Olympic, in particular Damon and John.

“I wish them and the boys all the best next season.”

Hakoah Sydney City East’s new President Michael Ephraim was excited with the prospect of seeing Stamatellis in the club colours.

“Mitch is a quality footballer that has proven his skills at some of the best clubs in the league.

“We are very excited that Mitch has chosen to join Hakoah in 2018 and we hope it will turn into a long-term relationship.

“We have had a fantastic year winning the Waratah Cup and making the Westfield FFA Round of 32 and next year, helped by the signing of Mitch, we hope to be even more competitive.”

While finally Sydney Olympic CEO John Bolous paid tribute to the defender’s departure.

“While we are disappointed that Mitchell has made the decision to leave the club, we fully respect and understand his decision.

“Mitchell has been a valuable member of the Sydney Olympic family over the years, playing youth football at the club and returning in 2016. We would like to thank him for his service to the club, and we wish him all the best for his future.”
