Forest Killarney are one of the oldest clubs in the Manly-Warringah Football Association and are set to embark on a massive Sunday heading into the 2017 PUMA Champion of Champions finals to be played at Valentine Sports Park.

Both Under 12 and Under 14 teams have won passage to their respective PUMA Champion of Champions Finals on Sunday – a feat which will see them as the most represented team on the day.

Forest Killarney FC Club President Scott Larsen spoke to Football NSW in the lead up to the event and confirmed that both teams are relaxed coming into Sunday’s epic event.

“We’re having a relaxed weekend, boys are having a bit of fun. Whatever happens on Sunday happens.”

It will be a massive moment in particular for the 14 boys side as they have swept all before them in the last few seasons and are reaping the reward of investing in local coaches with the likes of Coach Danny Panetta and Assistant Dean Sirianni pulling the strings.

“Our current 14’s has been very successful [they won last year] so it is a real tribute to them and how we’ve implemented a good program at Forest Killarney with coaches who have at least done their ‘C’ license.

“It’s the highlight of the season for the kids. They have done the hard work in their regular season so they will enjoy it.

“Something like the PUMA Champion of Champions could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for them.”

While the boys will be doing their best on the field, they will have a loud and boisterous convoy coming down from the Northern Beaches to cheer them on in both games at Valentine Sports Park.

Speaking on the atmosphere, Larsen admitted it was going to be a massive day.

“It will be a massive day for the club, besides the parents [of the boys], we have supporters of other teams coming out for extra support.

“Added to the excitement is the fact, the 12’s and 14’s play directly after each other, so we’ll have a massive crowd for both games that will be a huge incentive for the boys.”

Larsen isn’t thinking too far ahead of results on field this weekend.

“We’d love to win both games but honestly, it is great to make the final and we’re honoured to be involved in something like the PUMA Champion of Champions.”
