2017 PUMA Champion of Champions Reports
The 2017 PUMA Champion of Champions finals were played at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday 22nd of October with eighteen highly entertaining matches that rocked Football NSW’s headquarters.
The ‘Home’ of Football in NSW played host to grassroots football’s most prestigious tournament as teams from all over NSW wowed spectators in what was a wonderful day for the round ball game that proved to be a hit with players, managers as well as the referees and officials on the day.

Tremauville hat-trick sprus Forest Killarney to victory
Henry Tremauville scored a hat-trick as Forest Killarney defeated a valiant Kemps Creek outfit to claim the 12 Boys Grand Final at Valentine Sports Park.
The Forest striker opened the scoring with well-placed free kick before netting twice in the final five minutes to seal the victory for the Manly-Warringah club.
Kemps Creek drew the scores level shortly into the second stanza when midfielder Rowan Izci prodded home from close range but the Geoff Stanmore-coached side were consigned to defeat when Tremauville slotted his second and third goals late on.
The Southern Districts side started on the back foot and had gloveman Tomas Szoszkiewicz to thank for preventing Forest’s Michael Jansen from breaking the deadlock early on.
However, the Kemps Creek goalkeeper was unable to prevent Tremauville’s opening effort, finding the striker’s free kick too hot to handle.
George Manticos’ boys nearly doubled the advantage on the stroke of half time when Leonard Yannick arrived at the back post from a Forest corner but sent the opportunity wide of the near post.
Kemps Creek added insult to injury when Izci restored parity for the visitors six minutes into the second half after Forest had failed to clear Nathan Stanmore’s delivery into the box from the right.
A fantastic double save from Szoszkiewicz prevented Forest from retaking the lead when Conor Kenna’s free kick and rebound from Michael Jansen were parried away.
But Tremauville edged Forest back in front five minutes from full time with an expert flick at the near post before ensuring it would be a morning to remember for the travelling Killarney boys with a superb hat-trick-clinching free-kick strike from long range.

Gladesville Sharks power over Camden Tigers
Gladesville Sharks were deserved winners of the PUMA Champion of Champions 12 Girls Grand Final, recording a comfortable 3-0 win over Camden Tigers at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday morning.
Gladesville started brightly, winning an early corner and threatening down either flank through Matilda Andrews and Amelia Dixon. Georgia Andrianakos was a constant danger as she drifted in front of the Camden defence, but it was Harriet Johnson who opened the scoring midway through the first half with a low drive which skipped past the goalkeeper and inside the far post to bounce into the goal.
Gladesville refused to settle with a one-goal lead and instantly went hunting for a second. Dixon very nearly played in Isabel McKeough with a beautiful slide-rule pass but a Camden defender came across well to clean up. The half ended with Gladesville looking good for their lead, and Camden perhaps thankful for the referee’s whistle after a trying 25 minutes for their defenders.
Still, Gladesville picked up where they had left off after the break, and Andrianakos soon had her goal; chasing down a loose ball at the top of the box and rounding the goalkeeper to roll her shot into an empty net.
Having been on the back foot for the best part of the match, Camden began to push forward in the closing stages of the second half, but Bianca Noble and Emily Tait were never quite able to stick the final pass after promising play in the build-up.
Despite easing up in the last few minutes, it was little surprise when Gladesville had the final say of the match with a late goal from Jasmine Chaseling, who slammed home from close range to seal a well-earned win for her side. The referee brought the match to a close soon after; Gladesville’s attacking superiority obvious in the final score line.

Terrigal FC edge out Bossley Sports
Terrigal FC edged the PUMA Champion of Champions 13s Boys Grand Final 1-0 over Bossley Sports, with a defensive error leading to the only goal midway through the first half.
The match began at full throttle as Lachlan Pettitt slammed a low shot towards Neilson Nguyen’s far post; the keeper getting down well to save the first effort, and a follow-up volley soon after.
From there, Terrigal’s Riley Seers appeared to be determined to take control of the match himself, hitting a freekick towards goal which popped up for the stretching Pettitt, who couldn’t make contact with the bouncing ball. Seers had a shot of his own shortly after, sending the ball spinning just wide of the near post.
For all Terrigal’s shots – often from long range – Neilson Nguyen was relatively comfortable in the Bossley goal, and coped well with a series of attempts from Seers and Cohen Farmer. Still, he switched off for a moment as Pettitt crossed from the right, and pushed the ball into his own net as he went to catch it at his near post to give Terrigal a 1-0 lead.
Liam Gurner’s shot from distance reminded Terrigal of their slender advantage, and Seers lurched into gear again, playing in Pettitt with a dangerous ball just before the half, and testing Nguyen with a bouncing freekick after the break. The prodigiously named Ronaldinho Matti, meanwhile, had taken up his place in the centre of the Bossley Sports defence, as a curious crowd waited for him to emulate his Brazilian namesake.
The quality of the match dipped in the second half as both teams looked towards getting more goals on the scoreboard.
Seers then cut a cross into the box for Sebastien Grima as the clock ticked down towards full time, but he could only watch the ball skip wide of the post as his teammate failed to make proper contact.
Emolins spun clear of his defender and unleashed a late shot against the crossbar as Terrigal probed for a second, but Nguyen was alive to the danger to keep the score at 1-0 at the final whistle. Terrigal can consider themselves worthy winners, while Bossley Sports should be proud of their efforts against a well-drilled opposition.

Forest Killarney too strong for Auburn District
Forest Killarney made it two PUMA Champion of Champions Grand Final wins from two for the Manly-Warringah Association side after the 14 Boys beat Auburn District 2-0 at Valentine Sports Park.
Danny Panetta’s side took the lead against the run of play minutes before half time through Damon Panetta and continued to hold firm against Auburn in the second half, eventually doubling their lead through Matthew Brannan.
Auburn District created several great opportunities but their hopes of getting back into the game were hindered when Jahnbek Bulut received his marching orders midway through the half.
The disappointment will be particularly hard to take for Ahmad Elriche’s boys who dominated long periods of the match.
Attacker Lukeman Elhawat proved a constant menace from the left while the Auburn midfielders regularly peppered the Forest goal where gloveman Brody Nicol made a series of good stops.
Having outlasted a barrage of Auburn pressure, Forest took the lead with one of their lone forays into the opposition half when Panetta shimmied past defenders before unleashing a powerful strike that was palmed into his own net by Suhhaib Ramlawie.
There were chances for both sides immediately after the break where Bobo Martin went close to doubling the lead for Forest while at the other end a diving header from Tolga Sonmez looped wide.
Auburn continued to press for an equalizer and came within inches when Mohammad El Hage headed over the crossbar from an Auburn free kick but the side were then reduced to 10 players when Bulut was sent off for foul play.
Panetta saw his shot from the resulting free kick parried by Ramlawie but Matthew Brannan guided in the rebound from close range to seal a deserved Grand Final victory for Forest Killarney.

Killarney District pip Bonnyrigg FC in thriller
A fiercely-contested PUMA Champion of Champions 14 Girls Grand Final ended 1-0 in favour of Killarney District SC, with a golden goal settling the score after Bonnyrigg FC were reduced to ten players at the end of regular time.
Neither side gave the other an inch in the opening exchanges, with the referee setting the tone of the match early as she waved away appeals for a penalty after Bethany Hogg drove into the box before being cut down by a Bonnyrigg defender.
Bonnyrigg’s Nikolina Veselinovic squeezed off a shot which Maddisyn Apps-Gale dealt with comfortably in the Killarney goal, while up the other end Caitlin McMahon danced through a couple of defenders before seeing her shot saved by Jelena Saric.
For the most part, Killarney controlled a disjointed first half which was only occasionally punctuated by flashes of attacking flair; often coming from Hogg or the McMahons, Caitlin and Lily. Indeed, Caitlin McMahon very nearly opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the second half when she floated a shot over the head of the Bonnyrigg goalkeeper, who could only get a fingertip to the ball as she pushed it onto the crossbar and out for a corner.
Killarney continued to dominate shots on goal as Bonnyrigg grew frustrated in defence, and tempers flared late on when Tatiana Sivac was shown a red card for a push on an opponent. Both coaches were sent to the stands after the incident on the field, and the match was paused while both sides were given time to calm down. Play restarted but neither team was able to regain their rhythm, and the match slid into extra time.
Caitlin McMahon might have settled the match when she was played in on goal by Lily, but could only slip a weak shot wide of the post. She could thank her teammate, Lucy Dillon, for atoning for her error just a few minutes later: arriving on the right wing, Dillon slammed a shot across the box which bounced off the inside of the post onto the goalkeeper, before dribbling into the net. The referee sounded her final whistle as Killarney’s bench spilled onto the pitch, celebrating a hard-fought victory.

Fairfield Pats crowned Champion of Champions
Fairfield Pats were crowned 15 Boys PUMA Champion of Champions in a tense final against a gallant CC Strikers side 2-1 at Valentine Sports Park.
The first half was bereft of many chances but those that were carved out fell to diminutive Fairfield striker Maldeini Yousif.
At points, he played a lone hand against a structured Strikers defense.
Although the first chance of the contest fell to the Strikers, Mark Marinovic latched onto a wickedly delivered ball but his looped header floated just over the crossbar.
Yousif showed off his ability with a sublime turn to create space before he unleashed a weak shot that was well covered by Taylor Manson in the Strikers goal.
Next it was Fairfield’s Oliver Butany that found his range, with a stinging strike that by Taylor. Butany wouldn’t repeat that mistake twice, as the forward cut inside well to give Fairfield a 1-nil lead.
Right after the break, CC Strikers aptly struck to level the contest. Lachlan Chiarella hit the sweet spot from range to force Fairfield Pats keeper Jacob Izmirlian to take it over the line for a 1-1 score line.
After the equaliser, the game tightened up as both teams realised the prize on offer. Luke Brown had a prime opportunity for the Strikers but bent his effort wide of the post. Down the other end Yousif didn’t miss.
The star man latched onto a picture perfect through ball before he danced into the box and slid his effort underneath Manson to notch one up for Southern Districts in the 15 Boys division.

Lourdes FC delight as sole goal bags title
A delighted Lourdes FC sent their supportive crowd home happy in the early morning sunshine, beating a determined Macquarie Dragons 1-0 in the 16 Boys final.
They held a majority of the play across the 70 minutes and possibly should’ve added a few more but Lourdes FC scored the sole goal of the contest in the 51st minute when Haruan Kanat headed home for the first title of the morning.
It took only 120 seconds for Lourdes FC to have their first chance, Harun Kanat found space in the box but dragged it past the post.
Following the early scare, Macquarie Dragons settled into the contest and piled on the set pieces. They accrued several corners and a Seunghyun Lee free-kick that thundered off the Lourdes FC wall.
Once again, a flighted free-kick found a Dragon but Taeuk Kang couldn’t wrap his foot around the shot as the Dragons early offense was repelled well.
Before half-time Ngor Deng had a trinity of chances to open the scoresheet. Twice the young winger forced brilliant saves from Leo Wu then he couldn’t turn home a goalmouth scramble as we headed to half-time nil-all.
In the second half, it was all Lourdes FC and on 51 minutes, their dominance paid off. A nodded header was pushed onto the bar but Kanat was quickest to respond and swept home for the priceless 1-nil lead.
Macquarie Dragons continued to push forward for an equaliser but the speed of the Blacktown Association side stopped them every time.
So it was Lourdes FC who took home the 16 Boys PUMA Champion of Champions title.

Northbridge FC win in epic encounter
Courageous Northbridge FC survived a late flourish from AC United to seal a 3-2 extra-time victory against AC United today at Valentine Sports Park.
Northbridge FC raced out to a 2-0 in the first half, as Eliza Ewington and Sydney Stuckmann but were pegged back by a Stephanie Knafelc brace that sent the game into golden goal. Zoe Vandenberg was the hero as she arrowed home the decisive goal, five minutes into the added-on period.
It seemed after the first half that Northbridge FC would run away with the contest, Eliza Ewington struck in the seventh minute with a well-placed effort before Sydney Stuckmann, after a few misses, found space and made it 2-0.
If not for a string of inspirational saves from AC United keeper, Claudia Oliverio, highlighted by a magnificent double save right on halftime, the scoreline could’ve ballooned.
AC United rewarded their keeper’s heroics with two magnificent goals from Stephanie Knafelc in the 44th and 55th minute, as tiring legs meant the game drifted towards extra-time.
Not long into extra-time, Northbridge FC ended the contest with an arrowed effort from gritty midfielder Zoe Vandenberg that sent the title over the harbour bridge.

Ratnam the hero as West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook crowned Champions
Dash Ratnam was the penalty shootout hero for West Pennant Hills after the Cherrybrook WPH goalkeeper saved four spot kicks and scored one to claim a thrilling 3-1 shootout victory over SDW Hurricanes.
The two sides were locked at 2-2 at full time and with neither side able to break the deadlock in the extra time period the Cherrybrook goalkeeper offered a series of saves and a slick effort from the spot to end the Grand Final hopes of the travelling Dubbo outfit.
The Hurricanes had earlier taken the lead in a frenetic start the contest in which Logan Watmore opened the scoring before Cherrybrook rallied and took a 2-1 lead at half time thanks to strikes from Thomas Gold and Adrian Monardo.
Hamish Grant restored parity with two minutes remaining to force the match into extra time but Scot Watmore’s side will lament a series of missed opportunities throughout the course of the contest after faltering in the shootout.
The Hurricanes enjoyed a flurry of chances early in the match before Watmore put the visitors into the lead after controlling Will Grant’s cutback and brushing a powerful shot past Ratnam.
Having withstood a mountain of early pressure Cherrybrook forged a spectacular equalizer when Gold raced into the clear and clipped a superb effort over Hurricanes keeper Mitchell Conte and nudged themselves in front on the cusp of half time after Monardo powered home a header from a Ryan Frank corner.
The Dubbo side rallied impressively throughout the second half with Ratnam making superb interventions to deny Hamish Grant and Tyler Rankmore while Will Grant came close for Hurricanes when he clipped the outside of the post.
Eventually the visitors made their chances count when Hamish Grant poked home an equalizing goal to force the encounter into extra time, but with both sides adopting a more conservative approach the stage was set for Ratnam to steal the show with an outstanding penalty shootout salvo.

Golden Goal seals Abbotsford JFC Title
In a dramatic final that needed golden goal, Abbotsford JFC staged a remarkable comeback to snatch the 18 Mens title 3-2 over a disappointedd Glenmore Park FC in what was the pick of the bunch of epic encounters on Sunday.
From the opening whistle, it was an end to end battle as both teams showed their attacking verve and willingness to get forward.
Glenmore Park FC struck first in the fifth minute as the struck early on via Matt Auld much to the dismay of their opponents.
Their lead only lasted five minutes, as Abbotsford JFC skipper George Papadopulos deceived the defense with a grass-cutting effort to level the scoreboard.
If the game was scored on a tennis basis, Glenmore Park FC made it 30-15 when in the 20th minute Danny Lalor struck a volley sweetly to leave the Abbotsford JFC keeper rooted to the spot and restored the one-goal advantage for the Nepean Association side.
The battle of serve continued well into the second half, as Gabriel Favaro for Abbotsford and Lachland Murphy mistimed their chances as the game broke wide open.
As the clock ticked into stoppage time, it seemed Glenmore Park FC would hold on, football showed how cruel it can be. Abbotsford JFC won a foul right before injury time elapsed and had a final chance to send us to golden goal.
Papadopoulos stepped up, and delivered a perfect free-kick that cannoned off the crossbar then bounced down over the line, to incredibly make it 2-2 and extend this contest beyond regulation time.
Five minutes into the golden goal period, Abbotsford JFC put the game to bed. They won a penalty for a rash challenge in the box which gave Roberto Olles the final say. Confidently, the defender stepped up and slammed it home for a dramatic 3-2 win.

Classy Clark double seals Gladesville Ravens victory
Gladesville Ravens eased to a 2-0 win over Narellan Rangers in their PUMA Champion of Champions 18 Women Grand Final on Sunday morning at Valentine Sports Park, with two spectacular goals from Alice Clark either side of halftime proving the difference.
Jessica Bonnici and Matea Farkas exchanged shots early on before Gladesville settled into possession, leaving their opponents chasing shadows for long stretches of the match. Lara Halmarick held off Layne Ferguson well to squeeze off a shot at the top of the box, sending the ball crashing off the crossbar and bouncing away from danger as Gladesville began to pile pressure on the Narellan backline.
Halmarick proved a constant threat, peppering Jessica Delaney in the Narellan goal with a number of shots from range. Up the other end, Farkas slipped a shot of her own just wide of the post, but Gladesville were undoubtedly in the ascendancy.
Indeed, it was little surprise that the first goal of the game was scored by a Gladesville player: Alice Clark swung a boot at a ball running loose across the top of the box, curling her shot inside the top right corner to give her side a thoroughly deserved lead at halftime.
Gladesville picked up in the second half where they’d left off in the first, and Halmarick soon had another chance to double her side’s lead when she pushed through a crowded penalty box and fired off a shot which was deflected off-target.
Standing tall in the Narellan goal, Delaney pushed away a shot from Boccini to keep the score at 1-0 but she could do little to stop Clark from doubling her tally with a second strike from range that looped over the goalkeeper and settled in the back of the net.
Jessica Russo and Boccini both had chances to extend the Gladesville lead to three goals in quick succession, but Delaney made a series of saves to keep Narellen in the game. Charlotte O’Flynn and Chelsea Byrne worked hard as the Rangers looked to drag themselves back into contention, but the forward pressure from their opponents was incessant, and Narellen could only thank their goalkeeper for keeping the score line at 2-0.
The field seemed to stretch as both teams tired, and while Halmarick and Boccini might have finished the match with a hat-trick apiece, Gladesville would surely be content with the two goals that they did score past a keeper on top of her game.

Menai Hawks smash Maccabi Hakoah for six
A hattrick from Menai Hawks forward Jack Thorne led Menai to a comfortable Grand Final victory over Maccabi Hakoah in the 21 Men’s Grand Final at Valentine Sports Park.
Thorne struck twice inside the first ten minutes to gift the Sutherland outfit an unassailable lead and although Maccabi rallied through Oliver Gruia’s first half strike a dominant second half performance from the Hawks saw John Diaz’ side cruise to victory.
Jared Snellenburg’s strike from the penalty spot, a sensational breakaway finish from Pierce Coles-Sinclair, a fine hat-trick-clinching goal from Thorne and a late effort from Jacob Roll saw Menai streak away to claim the 21 Men’s Grand Final.
Menai raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of Thorne’s quickfire double who first tapped in a rebound after Pierce Coles-Sinclair’s header came back off the post before beating the Maccabi keeper with a clean strike from long range moments later.
The Hawks looked on course for a straightforward victory but faced an impressive fightback from Hakoah who halved the deficit through defender Oliver Gruia just over the half hour mark, while Dan Engelman tested Menai gloveman Joshua Towell with a free kick on the cusp of the break.
However, any hopes of a Maccabi comeback were quashed minutes into the second half where Menai reasserted their dominance by flashing in two quick goals.
Maccabi defender Aaron Ryba conceded a foul in the area with Jared Snellenburg slotting the resulting penalty kick while Thorne clinched his hat-trick 60 seconds later with an imperious left footed effort from outside the box.
The rangy Menai frontman was close to untouchable for the tiring Maccabi defence and laid on his side’s fifth after spraying a gorgeous ball through to Coles-Sinclair who buried the ball past the Maccabi keeper with a superb first-time finish.
And it got even better for the Sutherland outfit after Jacob Roll fired away a sixth from close range.

Epping FC thump Thirroul JFC
In perhaps the most dominant performance of the PUMA Champion of Champions competition, Epping FC blew away Thirroul JFC with a 20-minute hat-trick from Mia Axe that highlighted their 9-0 hammering of their opponents at Valentine Sports Park.
It was a replay of last season’s final where Epping FC won 4-0.
Mia Axe was the star of the first half, as the striker racked up a hat-trick in 20 minutes to stamp Epping FC’s authority on the contest from the opening whistle.
She cut the Thirroul JFC defense to ribbons in only the fourth minute for her first before she combined well with her fellow player to fire in her second. Her third was a full display of the speed that Axe possessed as she burst into the box and made it 3-nil.
Once the floodgates had opened, Epping FC were ruthless in their attack. Sami Farquhar added a delightful chipped effort for the fourth then Katherine Du sped down the left to square it for Kathryn Ramsay for a five-star first half.
Five might be enough for some but Epping FC smelt blood and made it six deep in injury time of the first half. Who else but Axe went for finesse for her fourth of the contest as she slid an effort underneath Thirroul keeper Matilda Davis-Raiss for 6-0.
Going into the second half, it was one-way traffic once again. Hard working midfielder Jasmine Boudib added herself to the honour roll with a stinging shot that Davis-Raiss couldn’t handle for the seventh goal of the game.
Axe added her fifth in the 62nd minute to complete a virtuoso performance then a late penalty rounded out the thrashing in the 74th minute, as the scoreline read 9-nil, and a well-deserved title for Epping FC.

Gritty Doonside Hawks defeat star studded Inter Lions outfit
Doonside Hawks came from behind to defeat Inter Lions 2-1 in their All Age Men’s Grand Final at Valentine Sports Park.
Inter’s Jeremy Joseph scored early on for the Lions but a spirited fightback from Doonside saw Brendan Salameh restore parity twenty minutes later before forward Benjamin McCann netted a fantastic 73rd winner on the counter attack.
The Canterbury-based Lions boasted an intimidating line-up featuring the likes of Adam D’Apuzzo, James Kovas and Ruben Lagos but were undone by the collective graft of the Hawks who were under threat for most of the first half but clawed their way into the contest.
Joseph underlined a great start from the Lions after steering home from underneath the crossbar following a set piece but Justin Bucciarelli’s side could’ve pressed their advantage further with Anthony Sarmonikas enjoying several opportunities.
The Inter attacker was denied by the post, the linesman’s flag and a great pair of saves from Doonside goalkeeper Nishad Wasim Ali before the Hawks equalized against the run of play through Salameh’s header.
Salameh’s neat finish from the penalty spot boosted Doonside who finished the opening half in the ascendancy and had Charles Galayini steer a header off target at the back post while McCann saw a long-range strike skip past Alessandro Fazion in the Inter goal.
Both sides struggled for clear cut chances in the second stanza and it took a superbly crafted transition for Doonside to take the lead with Patrick Keating storming up field from defence before measuring the perfect cross for McCann to edge Doonside in front.
Inter launched numbers forward in search of a late equalizer but Doonside remained steadfast and held on for a famous upset victory.

Albion Park SC too strong for Miranda Magpies
Albion Park eased to a 4-0 win over Miranda Magpies in the PUMA Champion of Champions All Age Women’s Grand Final at Valentine Sports Park, with two goals either side of halftime sealing a comfortable result on Sunday afternoon.
Rylee McGartland was determined to make her mark on the match early on and ran clean through on goal in the opening minutes, only for goalkeeper Lauren Miletich to get down well to save. Ashlee Chuter tried her luck up the other end with an optimistic poke towards Aleisha Chessell, who gathered the ball easily.
McGartland would have more success with her second attempt: lining up a shot at the edge of the area, she guided the ball into the bottom left corner with a calm finish to put her side up 1-0 after 14 minutes. Ten minutes later, she doubled Albion Park’s lead – and her own tally – when she lobbed the goalkeeper from outside the box, giving her side a two-goal cushion as the match rolled towards halftime.
Having completely controlled the first half, Albion Park eased off early in the second and allowed Miranda to attack. Lara Halls-Smith pulled off a fine nutmeg as Miranda looked forward, but they were always vulnerable to the counter. Casey-Leigh Suttle drew a sharp save from Miletich to earn a corner, and the resulting set piece fell for Tenaya Davis on the penalty spot, who slammed home Albion Park’s third goal of the afternoon through a crowded penalty box.
Miranda continued to improve as the half wore on: Halls-Smith tested the goalkeeper with a freekick before Deborah Stewart attempted a volley on the run, but Chessell refused to be beaten in the Albion Park goal. Another late chance fell to Chuter, who couldn’t find the angle for a shot after latching onto a loose ball in the six-yard box.
Despite Miranda’s resistance, it seemed fitting that the match should end with a final Albion Park goal. Moments after Miranda had hit the crossbar from a corner, their opponents broke down the other end and found Linda Hillard lining up on the penalty spot, who slammed home a fourth as the clock ticked over to 90 minutes.

Vibert Double burns Wakehurst FC
Two goals from Tiffany Vibert handed Mt Colah the PUMA Champion of Champions Over 30 Women’s Grand Final, with a double strike late in the second half helping her side to a 2-0 win over a spirited Wakehurst FC.
An early mix-up at the back saw Deb Maher burst through the Mt Colah defence, almost playing in Dianne Guzzo with a ball across the box, but a defender was alive to the danger and managed to clear before Guzzo could get a touch.
Mt Colah’s Amy Hofmann stabbed a hopeful shot at goal before Sue Alagich broke up the other end, turning her defender inside and out before darting towards the near post and slicing a shot at goal which Theresa Welschinger pushed away for a corner. Nyree Lovett was next to test the keeper, rising highest at a corner to head against the crossbar from the edge of the six-yard box, but still the game remained scoreless.
For all their dominance, Wakehurst very nearly found themselves behind shortly before halftime, when a cross was handled in the box, and a penalty awarded in favour of Mt Colah. Sally Loccisano stepped up to the spot and dragged her penalty agonisingly wide of Kyle Darkiewicz’s right-hand post, leaving both sides locked at 0-0 at the break.
Alagich should have put her side in the lead just after halftime when she broke clean of the Mt Colah defence to find herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but she pulled her shot wide of the post when it might have seemed easier to score. Catriona Ormond flicked a header against the crossbar before Vicki Cerny tested Welschinger with a free kick from distance; the shot never really troubling a goalkeeper in confident form.
Wakehurst would come to rue their profligacy: with little over ten minutes of the match remaining, Natalie Parker poked a shot towards the bottom corner of Darkiewicz’s goal, and while the keeper saved the initial shot, there was nothing she could do about the follow up from Tiffany Vibert.
Stunned by Vibert’s opener, Wakehurst were slow to react to going behind and were soon down 2-0, as Parker skipped by her marker and snapped a cross into the box for Vibert to bundle over on the goal line. Having been on the back foot for the best part of the match, Mt Colah finally found themselves in front when it mattered most.

Leichhardt Tigers JFC crush Springwood United
Leichhardt Tigers JFC cruised to a 6-2 victory over Springwood United FC in their Over 35 Men’s Grand Final at Valentine Sports Park.
The Tigers struck early on through Peter La Rocca and were initially pegged back by Jason Sciberras’ stunning reply for Springwood but a dominant second half performance saw a brace from Jason Lucia and goals to Gianpaolo Buonavoglia, Carl Modena and Carlos Gonzales to wrap up a comfortable Grand Final triumph.
The contest’s early stages were highlighted by a pair of wonderful strikes. Leichhardt opened the scoring thanks to Peter La Rocca’s lovely effort from outside the box but Springwood replied instantly when Jason Sciberras sent a scorching volley into the back of the net at the other end.
A great double save from Springwood keeper Tim Kelly kept out Buonavoglia and Steven Biviano in quick succession before Leichhardt hit the post through Nino Fragassi.
The dangerous Sciberras flashed a header wider of the post for Springwood in what was a fantastic opportunity and the Nepean side were promptly punished when an error from defender Allan Whelan saw Jason Lucia slide in a second despite a valiant initial block from Kelly.
When captain-coach Buonavoglia rounded Kelly to slot in Leichhardt’s third shortly into the second half the result looked out of sight for a tiring Springwood outfit and the Nepean side quickly succumbed to Lucia’s second of the day before Modena put the result beyond all doubt with a delicate chip over Kelly minutes later.
Carlos Gonzales added a sixth for Leichhardt after finishing off a sweeping team move before Springwood netted a consolation through Tim Hayman on the cusp of full time.
But for some wayward finishing in the final quarter of the contest the Tigers may have underlined further what was already a supremely dominant Grand Final victory from the Canterbury Association club.

St Michael’s break Engadine Eagles hearts
A spirited St Michael’s closed the curtain on a successful PUMA Champion of Champions day with a show stopping 2-1 victory in golden goal against Engadine Eagles.
Engadine Eagles got the game off to the perfect start in the 11th minute when Darren Wilson directed a cushioned header into the roof of the net. St Michael’s will to push throughout found an equaliser from the head of Robert Colville in the 66th minute before Peter Blakeley found the winner in golden goal.
As the final game of the PUMA Champion of Champions, the two sides traded barbs in the early stages of the contest before Wilson bulleted home a header from a well-directed corner to make it 1-nil to the Sutherland Association side.
The Saints weren’t deterred by falling behind early or by having their two best chances including a dipped effort from Alastair Wright and several close shaves from set-pieces.
Eventually though, St Michael’s equalised in the 66th minute when Robert Colville rose highest, like a spawning salmon, to create some tense final minutes, although neither side could create the breakthrough.
Only five minutes into the extra-time, Peter Blakeley refused to give up on the ball the box before he lashed one into the roof of the net to hand Northern Suburbs’ St Michael’s the Over 45 Men title.
