#FemaleFootballWeek with the Marconi Football Club
It’s been a busy start to the season for the Club Marconi Football Club, with the Stallions going purple for the Female Football Week festivities.
Club Marconi descended upon Bathurst last weekend to take part in the Proctor Cup. The Proctor Cup precedes the season and gives our girls an opportunity to bond together as a team before we kick off the competition. Clubs from all Leagues are able to participate. This year had a record number of teams. All 3 of our youth teams competed with exceptional results.
Our U14’s played the tournament undefeated and without conceding a single goal. This was without our normal keeper who was barracking from the sidelines due to injury. Several of our field players stepped up to take on the role of keeper so to come away with a clean sheet was nothing short of amazing. The Grand Final was played against Shellharbour, where girls were crowned Grand Final winners with a 2-0 result.
Our 15’s headed into the tournament as defending 2017 champions. The quarter-final against Central Coast Mariners was a nail-biter coming down to a penalty shootout with Marconi winning 4-2. The Semi-final was played against Albury Wodonga (the only team they lost to in the pool games) The girls knew they had to redeem themselves and stepped up to win the semi-final 3-1. The Grand Final was played against St George. The girls defended their title with a 2-0 win and once again coming home Proctor Cup Champions.
Our 17s played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, winning all their pool games comfortably. They found themselves playing against Bankstown (a NPL1 team) in the semi-final. With a final score of 1-1, the game went into extra time. With no goals by either team, they headed into penalty shootout. Despite the fact the girls dominated during the game, we went down in penalty shootout.
All 3 teams played exceptionally well, our coaching staff and managers did a fantastic job with our girls and our Marconi family thoroughly enjoyed a very successful weekend.
Our Marconi Women and Youth kicked off Round 1 of the Competition at home over the weekend against Sydney Olympic. Their U14’s fought to the end with Sydney Olympic only securing the win in the last minute of the game winning 2-1.
While in the U15’s game was a rematch of the 2017 grand final with our girls walking away with a comfortable 3-1 win. Finally the Stallions U17’s were down 1-0 at half time, but fought back valiantly winning 2-1. Unfortunately, both senior teams went down with Sydney Olympic winning 4-1 and 4-0 respectively.
