Sport NSW and Inner West Council have come together to present a Girls Get Active Day on Tuesday 13 March.
The event, designed to encourage more girls to benefit from participation in sport and recreation, will take place at Leichhardt Oval and involve 100 girls from four local high-schools, five elite female athletes and five different sports.
The Girls Get Active event commences at 9:30am where athletes and Westfield Matildas star Caitlin Foord, which  Football NSW has organised along with Hannah Monty (ultimate frisbee), Renee Forth (AFL) and Rene Hunter (hockey) will engage in a panel discussion led by dual Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, Jane Flemming OAM, to inspire the audience of female high-school students to participate in sport and active recreation.
At the conclusion of the panel discussion, the students will have the opportunity to meet the panellists and experience the various sporting activities on offer including Australian rules football, hockey, ultimate frisbee, football and yoga.
Sport NSW and Inner West Council are committed to supporting the future growth and development of sport and active recreation, which in turn sees people enjoy the benefits provided and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Girls Get Active events provide a unique opportunity for young females to engage with women achieving success in the sporting domain and to try a range of sports in a fun and safe environment, with each station facilitated by the panelists and/or staff from the state sporting organisations.
Sport NSW Chief Executive Officer Darren Simpson is thrilled to collaborate with Inner West Council for the Girls Get Active Day and hopes the event encourages the female students to participate in sporting activities within their local community.
“Sport NSW is delighted to host this event in conjunction with Inner West Council. I hope the successful young sports women, plus our gold medal winning MC in Jane Flemming, can inspire the girls to explore the pathways available to them and pursue their own sporting dreams,” Mr Simpson said.
