Highlands Soccer Association recently conducted a Coach Education course with assistance from both Football NSW and Highlands FA at the Yerrinbool/Bargo Soccer Club.

The agenda was piloting the latest method of delivering coaching education as a means of further upskilling coaches within the regional football mad area.

Highlands Soccer Association/Football Club Technical Director Nick D’Amore was delighted with the uptake of how the pilot was received by the local coaches.

“Delivering the STC course for a club gives us the opportunity to work with the grassroots coaches in their own environment.

“All coaches were engaged in the evening and were willing to put themselves out of their comfort zones looking into new teaching methods.

“Supporting the grassroots coaches with their own teams gives the instructors a clearer view of what their sessions will look like after the course wraps up.

“The purpose of the pilot is to look at how we can delivery courses differently to meet the needs of our army of volunteer coaches which are most commonly always mums and dads.

“With a focus on regional areas, we are combining training teams sessions with the delivery of the course which means the course is done over a longer period but does not impact of the coaches time any more than they already commit.

“The feedback so far has been very positive, and we are looking at how we may be able to scale the concept in metro areas in the near future.”
