Cranbrook School ready for CIS Cup Grand Final

After taking out the 2018 St Andrew’s Cup in style, Cranbrook School, coached by former English and A-League football star Lloyd Owusu, are hoping they can continue its winning trend by taking out the CIS Cup next Wednesday at Valentine Sports Park.

Ironically, Owusu will be coming up against one of his former schools he coached prior to accepting his new role at Cranbrook High, namely the International Football School, which only further pushed the hype of this match.

“I honestly cannot wait.

“The boys have done a fantastic job in getting this far but to play against my old school that I coached from 2015 to 2017 is very ironic.

“My boys will be well up for it after winning the St Andrews Cup a few months back and know what it takes to win a final.

“Fingers crossed we come victorious and with the silverware.”

Standing in Owusu’s way is a former friend in ex-Central Coast Mariners defender Patrick Zwaanswijk who happens to coach the International Football School along with several of Lloyd’s former pupils that will be starting on the night.

“They’re coached by one of my very good friends in Patrick so they’ll be well drilled and disciplined.

“I am looking forward to playing against them also as I coached a fair few of the boys in their starting line-up who are great players, they will certainly be up for it.”

Cranbrook School qualified for the final after defeating St Joseph 4-0 in the second round after they were given a bye in the first before winning 4-2 against a tough St Pius outfit in round 3.

They then went on to beat Innaburra in the quarter-finals on penalties before defeating Bishop Druitt College 5-2 in the semi-finals convincingly.

Valentine Sports Park will play host to the CIS Cup Grand Final on Wednesday 20th of June with kick-off set for 5:30pm.
