Two NSW Referees officiating at the ASEAN Futsal Club Championships in Indonedia

Andrew Best and Jonathon Moore who officiate in our Select Futsal Premier League have been recognised for their outstanding work through an invitation to officiate in the ASEAN Futsal Club Championships.

The 2018 ASEAN Futsal Club Championships are currently being held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from the 15th to 21st July. The two referees will be representing Australia in an officiating capacity, while East Coast Heat are representing Australia on the Futsal pitch.

Jonathon Moore who has been officiating for the past 13 years and also being one of the first referees in the Football NSW Premier League in 2006, is excited with what the new experience will bring.

“As a referee you’re always continually learning and looking for opportunities to further challenge yourself and a tournament like this with teams representing a number of different countries certainly offers this. I’m looking forward to bringing back a number of learnings and sharing some key parts of the experience with my colleagues here in NSW as we continue to prepare for the upcoming Select Futsal Premier League season for 2018/19.

Andrew and Jonathon will be assessed by AFC at the tournament to join the AFC Elite Futsal Referee Panel for 2019. Both referees have been officiating for several years and have only been appointed to the FIFA Referee List within the last two years.

Andrew Best has been refereeing for the past 20 years in both football and futsal is looking forward to the high level of quality futsal and improvement of all aspects of his game

“As a referee, we experience the same enjoyment, passion, highs and lows that a player does through a game and a season, and we are always pushing ourselves to higher levels. This is no different for domestic leagues or international competitions. Just as players dream of playing in a world cup final, referees dream of refereeing that world cup final.”

“For me, this first tournament as a FIFA referee is a 20-year goal coming true. I am excited to experience Futsal at a higher level and apply my skills to new teams from all over Asia and hopefully reinforce the high quality of Australian referees in Asia.
