“It doesn’t have to be over” that’s the message coming from Football NSW as the winter season draws to a conclusion, the biggest Summer Football season on record is about to roll-out across the state.

Last summer saw phenomenal growth with player registrations exceeding 41,000 and an increase in the number of Football NSW Clubs and Associations conducting an affiliated summer and walking football programs jumping to over 90 centres.

CEO Stuart Hodge was delighted with the progress and potential Summer Football continues to have on the sport.

“Grassroots clubs, Associations and both National Premier League and State League clubs are seeing Summer Football as ideal to increase opportunities for their players to continue playing throughout the year and to attract new players to football.”

The accessibility of TAFE NSW Summer Football is also increasing for players with at least 1 venue in each Sydney-metro Association and Regional Branch and the addition of more centres during the 2018/19 season; FNSW welcoming Gladesville Hornsby FA, St George City FC, Ashfield Pirates (CDSFA), Rockdale City Suns and Inter Lions (CDSFA) already joining for the upcoming season.

“Football is comfortably the most popular sport in winter but now we are starting to see its footprint as one of the biggest summer sport offerings in NSW also.

“Summer Football provides Football NSW, the Football Associations and clubs an opportunity to engage a broader cross section of people, with possible benefits including the retention of the approx. 30% who don’t engage in winter football,” Member Services Manager Matt Rippon added.

Further to Summer Football programs many centres will offer the newly introduced and ever growing in popularity Walking Football programs with Nepean FA, Football South Coast, Hills Football and CDSFA one of many offering the new format to prospective participants.

Football NSW will once again offer support to all Clubs and Associations conducting affiliated Summer Football programs; such as insurance, access to referees, registration portal through MyFootballClub, competition management, disciplinary process, model regulations, equipment voucher and referee subsidies, Summer Football Champion of Champions and local area marketing for each centre.
