There goes the weekend.

There has been some separation at the top, as Boomerangs FS and Phoenix Futsal Club sit top of the tree whilst the rest of the competition continues to nip at their heels heading into the second month of the regular season.

Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: SD Raiders 3 defeated by Raiders Futsal Club 5

Raiders Futsal made it back-to-back victories, as they defeated SD Raiders Futsal 5-3 in an entertaining affair Saturday afternoon at Fairfield Youth & Leisure Centre.

It was a day out for Cassidy Chidgey. The Raiders Futsal striker scored four goals including a first half hat-trick, while Amanda Lauric and Hannah Voloder found themselves on the scoresheet as the visitors scored 12 goals in two games.

SD Raiders fought hard, but were outmatched for a majority of the contest. Catherine Cannuli’s class shone through with a hat-trick in the contest. She blasted home once in the first half, before a second half salvo gave the home side a chance for a late comeback.

Early in the contest, it was Raiders Futsal that made the incisive runs. Sophia Hamilton had a chance from a kick-in within the first 60 seconds but arrowed it wide.

It only took another minute, for them to find the lead. Some superb work on the wing fed Cassidy Chidgey in the middle, the attacker took her chance calmly to make it 1-nil to Raiders Futsal Club.

Whilst they were still celebrating their goal, SD Raiders struck right back. Catherine Cannuli smashed home an effort from out wide, 1-1 with 120 seconds on the clock.

Raiders Futsal dominated the chances. Chidgey, Sophia Hamilton and Hannah Voloder formed a key partnership where they cut open the SD Raiders defense on occasion. They were denied by some brave defense from the SD Raiders to keep it 1-1.

Again, it was Chidgey that found the net. Jessica Fallah opened up the space well for the striker, which left Chidgey on-goal and she finessed an effort in the smallest window at the right post for 2-1.

Hannah Voloder had a pair of chances to extend the Raiders Futsal lead, where she was played in by Fallah but sprayed wide. Next, she fired a straight shot that was well saved by SD Raiders keeper, Kirsty Robins.

Chidgey completed her hat-trick in the 19th minute from the spot. From a handball, she stepped up then hit her effort top of the net to make it 3-1. Just before the break, it became four, Amanda Lauric finished off a superb cutback from Voloder.

Nine minutes into the second stanza, Cannuli reduced the deficit to a pair. She took on the defense herself then slotted home the effort to make it 4-2.

Much like Cannuli did in the first half, Chidgey responded immediately, this time with her fourth goal. She finished off a slick movement to again, put Raiders Futsal ahead, by three goals.

In a quite flurry of action, Cannuli found the net again, completing her hat-trick, and giving SD Raiders life in the contest once again.

They responded well to this lifeline. Cannuli rattled the post in the 40th before Vesna Milivojevic was denied one-on-one by the Raiders keeper. On a frustrating afternoon, there were some bright spots for the SD Raiders headed into their next fixture.

Raiders Futsal added a late sixth goal, with SD Raiders using their keeper in a roving role. Hannah Voloder turned well then directed an effort into the net, for 6-3 and back-to-back victories for the visitors.

Other Round 4 Results

It was a case of home, sweet home for Boomerangs FS last night, against Sydney City Eagles. The team from the capital piled on nine goals in a 9-1 result which shot them to the top of the SELECT Futsal Premier League 2 ladder. Michaela Day starred with a hat-trick, Grace Basser-Silk continued her red-hot form with a brace while Eleanor Raymond, Madeleine Perceval, Stella De Marco and Ellen Brown collected the other goals. On a dismal night, Tameeka Thomson got some consolation for the Eagles with her goal.

Phoenix Futsal Club joined them on nine points after a 4-2 result at PCYC Hornsby against a spirited Sydney Futsal Club. Hannah Mcnulty found herself on the scoresheet again for Phoenix joined by Isabella Hopkins, Nattasha Disciasio and Ellana Balicki. The result makes it back-to-back losses for Sydney Futsal Club but they did find the net twice through Madeleine Mirkovic and Ramona Spicer.

Rounding out the scores, West City Crusaders and South Coast Taipans played out a 0-0 draw, which prevented the Taipans from joining the pack at the top of the competition. For Crusaders, that is their second point of the season, as they look to move up.
