We head into the second month of the SELECT Futsal Premier League 2 competition where the top two – Boomerangs FS and Phoenix Futsal – have separated from the pack as the rest claw to catch them on another exciting weekend of futsal action.

Match of the Round: Sydney City Eagles vs Phoenix Futsal Club, Saturday 27 October, 3:30pm, Michael Clarke Recreational Centre

Second takes on fifth as Sydney City Eagles look to rebound against Phoenix Futsal Club in this weekend’s Match of the Round which takes place at Michael Clarke Recreation Centre.

There is contrasting fortunes for the sides headed into this clash. Phoenix Futsal beat Sydney Futsal Club 4-2 at home, meanwhile it was capital carnage for Sydney City, as they fell 9-1 to a rampant Boomerangs FS.

Phoenix rebounded well from losing their undefeated streak, with four different scorers in their third win of the season. Hannah Mcnulty remains the headline act, the first player to double digits this season, and someone the Eagles need to mark heavily to keep her quiet.

The Eagles aren’t a side to be taken lightly. In Jess Beale, they possess quality to take on any squad in SELECT Futsal Premier League 2. Eagles sit just outside the top four so this promises to be a quality contest to kick off the weekend.

Boomerangs FS vs SD Raiders, Saturday 27 October, 4:10pm, Fairfield Youth & Leisure Centre

Top of the table Boomerangs FS head on the road again, off to Fairfield, taking on sixth placed SD Raiders Futsal looking to extend their lead at the summit.

It was a night out for Boomerangs FS last weekend, piling nine goals on Sydney City in an impressive display, as SD Raiders Futsal were gallant but overrun by local rivals, Raiders Futsal, 6-3.

They have found their shooting boots in recent weeks, Michaela Day scored a hat-trick on debut, while Grace Basser-Silk and Madeleine Perceval maintain their consistent goal-scoring feats which make them a threat across the park.

SD Raiders on their day can blow any opponent away. Catherine Cannuli showed her class with a hat-trick and Vesna Milivojevic, who has five goals thus far, could help them spring an upset against the ladder leaders.

South Coast Taipans vs Raiders Futsal Club, Saturday 27 October, 4:40pm, UOW Sports Hub

South Coast Taipans head home, looking to rejoin the top of the table, taking on a resurgent Raiders Futsal Club at UOW Sports Hub on Saturday afternoon.

The Taipans were surprisingly held to a goal-less draw against West City Crusaders while Raiders Futsal found their groove in a 6-3 success against SD Raiders which took them into fourth.

After their pair of losses to start the season, Raiders Futsal showed in blasting home 13 goals. Their front three of Cassidy Chidgey, Hannah Voloder and Sophia Hamilton will get a stern test against the strong Taipans side.

Back on their home court, where Taipans have scored 11 strikes thus far, they should be back to their attacking best on Saturday afternoon. So we’re set for a fantastic contest between two of SELECT Futsal Premier League’s heavyweight sides.

Sydney Futsal Club vs West City Crusaders, Saturday 27 October, 7:20pm, National Centre for Indigenous Excellence

Finishing off the weekend is a fascinating fixture between two sides at the wrong end of the table, seventh placed Sydney Futsal Club host eighth West City Crusaders Saturday night.

The Crusaders ride into Redfern on a high, blunting a potent South Coast Taipans 0-0 in Hawkesbury as Sydney Futsal Club fell to back-to-back defeats in their 4-2 loss to Phoenix Futsal.

Both sides have attacking talent through their ranks. For Crusaders, Hollie Wilson and Stefanie Trovato are their main threats while Madeleine Mirkovic is that for the home side, in a crucial contest for two sides chasing higher honors.
