The SELECT Futsal Premier League 2 competition continues to remain compact as besides the leaders, Boomerangs FS, the rest of the top four all sit on 9 points and they have the chasing pack hot on their heels in another fascinating weekend of futsal action.

Match of the Round: Raiders Futsal Club vs Sydney Futsal Club, Saturday 3 November, 5:40pm, Thomas Hassell Anglican College

Raiders Futsal look to continue their pursuit of the top spot, as they welcome last place Sydney Futsal Club to Thomas Hassell Anglican College for this week’s Match of the Round.

Due to their recent form, Raiders Futsal has shot into second position, their third straight win coming in a 6-2 success against South Coast Taipans, whilst the misery continued for Sydney Futsal as they fell 7-nil to Crusaders.

Last week’s game underlined the strength in attack the Raiders have. Mia Conners and Vanessa Ciabatti took the reins in their success, which featured a rare scoreless outing from Cassidy Chidgey. That makes for possibly, a tough afternoon, for the Sydney defence.

Sydney has shown in spurts they can challenge teams. They sit on the bottom, with three points but importantly, remain two wins from the top four. The visitors will be looking to claim a huge scalp in the Raiders to possibly kickstart their season.

SD Raiders vs South Coast Taipans, Saturday 3 November, 3:20pm, Fairfield Youth & Leisure Centre

Two sides struggling for form get a golden opportunity to move back in the right direction, as SD Raiders host South Coast Taipans at Fairfield Youth & Leisure Centre Saturday afternoon.

Both sides come into the game off losses, Taipans lost a wild contest 6-2 to the rampaging Raiders Futsal whilst SD Raiders suffered their heaviest loss of the season, as Boomerangs FS were clinical in a 7-nil result.

The Taipans hit a roadblock after their impressive start to the season, a goal-less draw followed by the loss has them sat in fifth position, on the outside looking in to the finals. Danielle Wise continues to be the bright spot for the side, seven goals in five outings this season, might find some joy against a porous SD Raiders defence.

For the home side, it is about regaining that winning feeling. They haven’t tasted success since the opening day when they defeated Sydney Futsal Club, 3-2, so they need their big guns to fire to move them away from seventh and back into the hunt.

Phoenix Futsal Club vs Boomerangs FS, Saturday 3 November, 5:50pm, PCYC Hornsby

Top of the tree, Boomerangs FS head on the road again, off to the north, PCYC Hornsby as they take on fourth placed Phoenix Futsal Club in the twilight kick-off on Saturday evening.

Leaders Boomerangs FS have moved three points clear after their crushing 7-nil against SD Raiders while Phoenix Futsal remain in fourth, after their loss to Sydney City Eagles, 6-1, with two other sides on nine points.

Coach Kristian Collins praised the dominant display from start to finish, also that there were six different scorers, making them a hard side to shut down. If they fire again, Boomerangs can put some further distance between them and the rest of the top four.

Regarding Phoenix Futsal, they hope last week was a blip in form against a red-hot Eagles side. They created a fair few chances, if Hannah Mcnulty and Hannah Gestier can find their shooting boots again, we’re in for a treat to kick off November.

West City Crusaders vs Sydney City Eagles, Saturday 3 November, 6:20pm, Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium

A pair of positive results have West City Crusaders re-energised as third place Sydney City Eagles make the trip across town to take them on, at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium.

Both these teams come into this off impressive results; Sydney City Eagles hammered Phoenix Futsal in last week’s Match of the Round, 6-1 as West City secured their first win in style, 7-nil against Sydney Futsal Club.

The combination between Tameeka Thomson and Jessica Beale exploded for five goals for the Eagles last week, the two are potent in front of goal and if the Eagles want to break the cycle of win-loss those two can provide that lift they need.

For the Crusaders, after breaking through for their first win they are within touching distance of the top four, and after having six different scorers in their victory, shows they aren’t just a defensive side and could catch the Eagles cold if the visitors aren’t prepared.
