Goals were on the menu in an action-packed Round 11 on this doubleheader weekend.

Thirty-five goals were knocked in on Sunday afternoon across the competition, as the top two remain in their positions whilst Phoenix Futsal Club and South Coast Taipans round off the top four in an important day for the makeup of the finals picture.

Match of the Round: Raiders Futsal Club 7 defeated SD Raiders FC 3

It was a successful weekend for Raiders Futsal Club, they took all six points after they defeated SD Raiders FC, 7-3 in a ten-goal contest at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Sunday night.

Everything came in twos for Raiders FC Sunday – Cassidy Chidgey, Amanda Lauric and Nicole Ossio all scored twice across the 50 minutes – while Emma Voloder chipped in with the other, as the home side made it back-to-back victories to end a successful doubleheader weekend.

Regarding the visitors, they held their own for the first half, it was 2-2 headed into the break. Vesna Milivojevic scored in either half, taking her season total to 19 alongside Jessica Grasso’s arrowed effort to take a first half lead.

Much like the contest on Saturday, the game opened with some quickfire goals. It was the two strike weapons that supplied them – Vesna Milivojevic for SD Raiders and Cassidy Chidgey for Raiders FC, making it 1-1 within a blink of an eye.

SD Raiders remained the brighter side in the first ten minutes. Milivojevic was released down the court for a powerful shot that Raiders FC keeper, Mariella Hurtado parried out for a corner.

She wasn’t able to save the next effort from SD Raiders. Jessica Grasso found enough space, arrowed the ball low into the corner of the net, putting the visitors ahead, 2-1. Grasso almost followed up with a low free-kick that fell wide two minutes later.

Next the SD Raiders keeper, Kaitlyn Doan was called into action, she had to deny a snapshot from Cassidy Chidgey to preserve the lead. The sharpshooter made amends in the 16th minute from a turnover, rocketed home, made it 2-2.

The rest of the first half saw a few half chances, as Katelyn Hancock clipped over for SD Raiders and a swept move between Milivojevic and Victoria Guzman, saw the former shoot wide, unable to put them back in the lead.

For Raiders FC, Mia Connors couldn’t turn home a corner before the half finished with Vanessa Ciabatti sending an effort over the bar, as the two sides couldn’t be separated, headed 2-2 into the break.

Raiders FC flexed their goal-scoring muscle quickly in the second half. Nicole Ossio set them on the way with a smashing effort that made it 3-2. Emma Voloder should’ve followed up with the fourth but clattered the crossbar from a turnover.

Volodermade up for her crossbar challenge in the 32nd minute, she curled in a magnificent effort, giving Raiders FC a two-goal cushion, and it looked like their attacking had clicked into gear this weekend after a middling fortnight.

From there, it was a procession of goalscorers for Raiders FC. Ossio was released well and comfortably slot home the fifth goal of the contest. Amanda Lauric got herself into the act from a one-two with Sophia Hamilton for 6-2.

Not content with only one goal, Lauric put a neat bow on the dominant second half victory with a stunning strike that left SD Raiders FC, Doan rooted to the spot. After the even first half, Raiders FC blew open the contest with five goals in the second.

In a late rally, Milivojevic got herself a brace with a stabbed home effort to make it 7-3. Headed into the final minute, she had a pair of chances from the set piece but both were denied, as Raiders FC were two from two on the weekend.

Speaking after the contest, Bernard Voloder praised the effort from his side after an off colour few weeks to get back to their standard of play headed into the final few weeks:

“We’ve got back to basics, trusting each other and playing into spaces while not forcing passes. There is a lot of trust in this group and we’ve worked hard in the last few weeks for that,” said the Raiders FC coach.

“A game like today where both sides needed the win, we needed to remain patient. From that, we got the result and it shows the consistency in the group to get those kinds of results.” finished Voloder.
