The heat may have been scorching but so was the football as the 2018 TAFE NSW Summer Football Champion of Champions Finals took shape at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday.

The event hosted over 200 players from 24 teams from across Sydney in the Mens, Womens, and Mixed categories. Tournament regulars Kellyville Kolts, Gladesville Sharks, Nepean, St George FA, Northern Suburbs and Ryde Panthers were joined by several newcomers such as Lowland Wanderers, Hills Football and St George City.

The event was played in fantastic spirit in albeit hot conditions with a variety of activations through sponsors TAFE and DJ Marel Music.

Pennant Hills claimed their maiden title with a convincing win over an exhausted APIA team who battled through a tough group and even tougher semi-final over Lowlands in extra time.

Northern Suburbs once again claimed the Mixed title in a repeat of the 2017 final defeating Nepean 3-1 in an extremely close and well fought encounter.

Gladesville Sharks returned to the winners podium in a dominating display blitzing the group stage. They scrapped through the semi-final in the game of tournament edging St George FA in a penalty shootout in the semi- final. They met a determined Kellyville Kolts side who fell just short at the final hurdle on what was a great display for Womens Football

Football NSW Member Services Manager Matt Rippon was ecstatic how the day unfolded.

“The pinnacle event for summer football highlighted another fantastic summer season which has seen over 47,000 players across 90 centres participate in summer social season with many more still to get underway in the new year.

“The event continues to grow and we cant wait to take this tournaments to new heights year on year.”
