SELECT Futsal Premier League 2 – Round 13 Open Women’s Preview

PBL_6270

We head into the penultimate weekend of SELECT Futsal Premier League 2 action, with most of the major talking points for the Open Womens competition decided, but we still have South Coast vs SD Raiders to headline Round 13 alongside three other terrific contests on a fantastic weekend of futsal.

Match of the Round: Sydney City Eagles vs West City Crusaders, Saturday 15 December, 4:20pm, Michael Clarke Recreation Centre

Sydney City Eagles might be out of the finals equation, but they have pride left to play for as they take on West City Crusaders on Saturday afternoon at Michael Clarke Recreation Centre.

It won’t be an easy task, as Crusaders buoy into south-west Sydney after an 8-1 thrashing of Sydney Futsal Club that brought them to double digits for the year. The Eagles were burnt by the Phoenix, 6-1, as they continue to have a rollercoaster year.

In a disappointing year for the Eagles, Montana Bolzan has emerged as a fantastic third option for them in attack. She has netted five goals for the season, and combines well with their two main threats, to bring them some joy Saturday afternoon.

Coming off their biggest goal return of the season, Crusaders can jump past the Eagles with three points on the weekend, and if Kaitlin Harms and Dione King can click into gear, with five goals between them last weekend, this could be an open and wonderful exhibition of futsal.

South Coast Taipans vs SD Raiders, Saturday 15 December, 3:50pm, UOW Sports Hub

Fourth takes on fifth in a contest that will go a long way to determine the final makeup of the top four on Saturday afternoon at UOW Sports Hub.

Both sides come into the contest locked on 17 points after South Coast Taipans suffered a heartbreaking loss, 3-2 to competition heavyweights, Raiders FC whilst SD Raiders also fell to a contender, losing 4-2 to Boomerangs FS down in the capital.

These two played out an entertaining 2-2 draw back in Round 6. If similar fireworks are on display on Saturday, fans are in for a treat as the two sides know that a single moment could swing their fate for the rest of the season, with the margins so tight.

In a contest between two attacking dynamos, it might a shootout between their two sharpshooters upfront. Vesna Milivojevic for SD Raiders, dominates the scoring charts for her side with 20 goals whilst Danielle Wise has a remarkable 15 goals in 11 games. So, get ready for a high scoring contest to light up the afternoon down in the ‘gong.

Boomerangs FS vs Phoenix Futsal Club, Saturday 15 December, 5:20pm, AIS Training Halls

Boomerangs FS have streaked away from the competition, now they look to finish the season in dominant fashion, as they welcome third place Phoenix Futsal Club to AIS Training Halls on Saturday.

We have a mouth-watering contest in prospect, as both teams put together clinical displays as Phoenix Futsal Club put the cleaners through Sydney Futsal Club, 6-1 whilst Boomerangs took care of a gallant SD Raiders FC, 4-2.

Hannah Mcnulty continues her purple patch of form with 10 goals in the last month for Phoenix Futsal Club. She was ably assisted by Sarah Moore’s hat-trick, so they are in a prime position to cause a result similar to their 3-3 draw with Raiders FC earlier this season and avenge their 10-nil thrashing in the reverse fixture.

That is a tough ask, Boomerangs FS have been SELECT Futsal Premier League 2’s answer to the terminator with their consistent form. They have only dropped three points in the whole season, to Taipans, and their varied attack might lend them to land a further blow to a possible finals opponent.

Sydney Futsal Club vs Raiders Futsal Club, Saturday 7:20pm, National Centre of Indigenous Excellence

Raiders Futsal Club continue to tune up for the upcoming finals as they take on Sydney Futsal Club down at Redfern in the night cap fixture of Round 13 on Saturday.

Another week, another huge score line against Sydney, as this time they fell by the sword by Phoenix Futsal Club, 6-1 as their goal difference past –50. Raiders FC had to dig deep, after Taipans pulled back two goals before a late Hannah Voloder goal sealed a 3-2 win.

Bernard Voloder made a key point that he wants his Raiders FC side tested before we get to the business end of the season. Sydney did give them a scare for small periods in their Round six fixture before an avalanche of Raiders cruelled them, so the visitors will have that in mind as they look to put in a complete 50-minute performance.

Whilst there is nothing but pride left for Sydney to play for, they could end the season on a high, possibly taking down one of the competition heavyweights. Rochelle Johnson has been their talisman, alongside Hannah-Rose Davey will provide much of their scoring threat on Saturday night.
