Community Futsal Teams battled it out against Australian Defence Force (ADF) teams as Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre was treated to a spectacle of talent over the weekend.

The Community Futsal Cup is a tournament aimed at growing grassroots futsal and bringing diverse community groups together to enjoy the beautiful game.

With the Defence Force teams in town, local teams were able to show them the quality of Futsal that is played throughout local centres in NSW.

The Men’s final was one not to miss with Sydney All Blacks and Identical Tigers neck to neck with a 2-2 draw at the end of full time. Both teams got in front throughout the course of the game. However it was in extra time that saw Sydney All Blacks score from a spot kick to win the Grand final 3-2.

In the Women’s Final Navy Women’s were looking for revenge of the round game against Indoor 5s Women’s. Navy started of strong with a few early goals and proved too strong for Indoor 5s Women’s finishing the game with a 7-1 win.

Demelza Howard, Football NSW’s Tournament Manager hailed the second year of the tournament a growing success.

“This year the tournament grew again with 10 teams participating across both Men’s and Women’s. We initially had 14 teams however both Army and Airforce were deployed last minute to assist with the Queensland Flood Disaster and there weren’t enough players to field the teams.

“I’d like to say a special thanks to all the Australian Defence Force for their service.

“A huge thank you to Indoor 5’s, Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre and The Navy Football Federation and NSW Futsal Referees Association for coming together for a wonderful tournament of Futsal.”
