It’s been an incredible year this far for the Forbes District Soccer Club.

Situated in Forbes Shire in NSW’s Central West with a population of around 9,000 including satellite villages and farming communities, the club has gone from strength to strength in an incredible year for football within the local area.

The football club has grown from 200 players in 2013 to over 450 in 2019.

The female participation rate has multiplied to 39% of all players aged 4 to adults.

The club also initiated an ALDI MiniRoos Program for Under 4s and Under 5s resulting in 100 young toddlers starting to play football this year.

President Laura Tandy was very proud to accept a Club Award from the Forbes Sports Council for being the “Most Fair Go” Sports Club” in the region.

Doug Mckenzie heads up the club coaching and development programs as well as researching and implementing new strategies to grow the game in the region.

“We provide 2 nights a week club and SAP development training for kids from 5 to 14 years, conduct fun football sessions at local schools in the registration window before the season starts, free school holiday coaching clinics thanks to sponsors such as North Parkes Mines and Forbes Memorial Services Club.

“But all in all, we believe the reputation of the club being a happy, friendly, sporty environment with professional training which is inclusive of boys, girls, ethnic minorities and children with disabilities has resulted in the massive boost of registration numbers.”

The upcoming Annual Gala Day has Ex-Socceroo Captain Paul Wade visiting as the Game Day Ambassador with 60 teams registered from all over country regional NSW and 138 games scheduled for Sunday 30 June.

In addition, funding grants from the Asian Cup Legacy Fund, NSW and Federal Government has a great new toilets and amenities facility being built as we speak.

A major future project in partnership with Forbes Shire Council is to install 4 Urban small sided football fields at Stephan Field adjacent to Woolworths in the middle of town.

It’s no secret that the Forbes District Soccer club is certainly kicking goals in the right direction, watch this space.
