World expert on Skill Acquisition to Present at Football NSW 2019 State Coaching Conference

Football NSW is pleased to announce that world-renowned specialist in skill acquisition and talent identification, Dr Job Fransen, has agreed to present at this year’s State Coaching Conference to be held at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday 10 November.

Dr Fransen’s specific presentation at the Conference will be on ‘Skill Acquisition – What you need to know about talent to develop young athletes’

Conference Convenor, Chris Adams, Manager, Coach Development at Football NSW stated “to have someone of Job’s experience and background is a real coup for this year’s event. He will be part of our new ‘breakout’ structure where attendees with a special interest in the skill acquisition area will be able to listen and learn from a world expert in this field”.

Dr Fransen completed his PhD on motor competence development in children and adolescents at Ghent University, Belgium early 2014, with a particular focus on what it takes to develop talented athletes. He was employed by the Flemish Rugby Union, the Belgian Female Rugby Sevens team and several clubs in field hockey, football and rugby in the highest levels of their respective codes in his native Belgium.

Moving to Australia in 2015, Dr Fransen immediately became involved with the Sydney Swans Football Club as a skill acquisition specialist and as a scientific advisor in a wide range of industry-based research projects with the Swans Academy, the National Rugby League and Rugby Australia. Dr Fransen’s previous work in football has been with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga, as well as with Australian football teams at a community and representative level.

He has published extensively on a broad range of topics and his special research interests include talent identification and the measurement and development of perceptual-cognitive skill and sporting expertise.

Dr Job Fransen is currently a Senior Lecturer in motor control and skill acquisition at the University of Technology, Sydney.
