100-year Derby Honours Legends

One of the oldest Australian football derbies took place over the weekend between two Granville District Soccer Football Association clubs in the form of the Granville Waratah and Granville Kewpies.

The All Age Division 5 Grand Final saw both teams lock horns in what was a memorable game for the ages between two clubs steeped in history.

In lieu of marking such an occasion, two former Socceroos teammates from the 1950’s, Bill Henderson a former Waratah and Alan Garside, a former Kewpie star, marched out the two teams in honouring their rivalry.

Both teams and supporters were inspired by their attendance and were proud to call these two living legends their own – Granville born and bred.

As for the result, it was Henderson who had the last laugh as his Waratah side came up 2-1 victors over the Kewpies.

The Derby continues.
