The U16/1 2019 Premiers and Champions of the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA), Earlwood Wanderers FC Under 16/1 Boys team continued their winning ways in the Football NSW Champions of Champions, State Knock-out competition for Division 1 Teams, by beating Sutherland Shire’s based Lilli Pilli 1-0 to reach the Round of 8

The match was a tough encounter, with both sides of chances having few clear cut chances and both goalkeepers kept the game scoreless in the first half.

The second half was equally compelling, however a slight odd kick, which was meant to be a cross, turned into a goal in the 55th minute by Earlwood’s Stef Ottavio.

What also made the win memorable, is that Earlwood had many players injured for the knock-out match, yet four players from seven injured, offered to help out on the day and all competed with different issues, including a broken finger to ensure the bench had depth.

Earlwood have now qualified to the sudden death Round of 8 knock-out phase from over 500 registered U16 boys’ teams across NSW leaving 8 teams vying for the title of Football NSW’s U16 Champions.

Head Coach, Jim Tatsis was ecstatic after the match.

“it is a great honour to have the opportunity to compete against the best U16 Division 1 teams in NSW, we look forward to the next challenge of the Finals, we are so proud of our boys and what they have achieved in 2019.”

Next match: This Sunday, Hornsby Heights FC (Current FNSW State Cup U16 Runners Up), with more details on times and location at footballnsw.com.au or ewfc.com.au
