The opening fortnight of the Futsal Premier League 2 competition has shown that this a wide-open contest and Round 2 showed that there is plenty of quality across the eight teams in the division. Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: Phoenix Futsal Club 1 defeated by Dural Warriors 6

Dural Warriors were dominant in their 6-1 thrashing of Phoenix Futsal Club in this weekend’s Match of the Round at PCYC Hornsby.

It was a quite thorough performance from Dural Warriors. They stayed composed, worked the ball around well and picked up their first win of the season. Emma Hurley led the way for them with a brace while Luseane Cook, Bianca Dobson, Estelle Fragale and Rachel Perrins completed the scoreboard for the victors.

Phoenix Futsal Club were gallant in defeat, they had their chances but were denied well by Dural Warriors custodian Sarah Easthope. Isabel Gomez found the back of the net for their sole goal in the contest but that was a solid performance against one of the better sides.

Coming off the first week draw, Phoenix Futsal Club looked to establish themselves early in the contest. Naomi Majok sprung free with a pair of shots that were denied by Dural Warriors custodian Sarah Easthope.

From there, the best chances for Phoenix Futsal Club came on the breakaway. Sarah Moore squeezed past several defenders to shoot then Laura Coward was denied from close range as the game searched for the opener.

It came in the 10th minute for the visitors. Luseane Cook was the one to find the back of the net after some nice, patient build up from Dural Warriors that made it 1-nil. The visitors quickly doubled their delight in the 14th minute.

Tess Olsen rampaged down the right side of the court before she picked out Bianca Dobson in the middle, who swept the ball home well, making it 2-nil as the Warriors started to dominant possession and chances.

Estelle Fragale was the next to get herself on the scoresheet as the chances for Dural Warriors started to come thick and fast. She picked off an errant pass and rolled home, 3-nil.

Edging closer to the break, Phoenix Futsal Club created a flurry of chances. Anahid Jandagi shot wide from a well-directed pass from Isabell Gomez then Moore flashed wide as the home side still remained goalless.

Their drought was compounded by a fourth goal from Dural Warriors. Rachel Perrins arrowed into the bottom corner to make it 4-nil, and the Warriors were well on their way to their first three points of the season.

Phoenix Futsal Club did claw one back in the 41st minute. Gomez slammed the ball home after a good ball from Moore opened up the space, 4-1.

Dural Warriors stamped their mark on the contest with a late brace to Emma Hurley. She struck first in the 46th minute from an incisive move then deep into the final minute of the contest, started and finished a move to make it 6-1.

Talking post-match Dural Warriors coach Rob Varela praised his side for their composure and the defense shown by his side across the contest:

“We kept the ball well, defended well and we knew that keeping them to a low score that we could find the goals required. This is a young squad so I am quite happy to get the six goals on the board today after a good performance last week.” said Varela.

South Coast Taipans 4 defeated Sydney City Eagles 0

The Taipans picked up their first win of the season in a comfortable 4-nil result against Sydney City Eagles on Saturday night at UOW Sports Hub.

Coach Bobby Mazevski praised his side post-match for the Taipans “sticking to the game day and executed it well. We will be taking it one game at a time though.” as South Coast rushed out to a three-nil lead before the break.

Chief to that was the work of signing Danielle Wise. The poacher scored for fun in the outdoor season for Central Coast Mariners and brought that form to the futsal court, getting herself on the scoresheet with a brace alongside Danika Matos’ double for the dominant win.

West City Crusaders 3 defeated by Sydney Futsal Club 5

Sydney Futsal Club picked up their first three points of the season in an 5-3 result against West City Crusaders on Saturday night at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium.

The first half was a see-sawing affair as the two sides traded goals and went into the break tied at 2-2. Jennifer Bennett and Dione King scored the goals for West City Crusaders with Jess Meads and Morgan Maxwell found the back of the net for Sydney Futsal Club.

In the second half, it was all Sydney Futsal Club. Brittany Christie, Tanya Marjanovic and Nicole Besz scored in a dominant performance that has helped them to surpass their total from the entire 2018-19 season.

For the Crusaders, they were unable to back up their impressive first up victory with only being able to register one more goal in the second half. They still sit in fourth spot in a condensed Futsal Premier League 2 table and look to bounce back.

Raiders Futsal Club 5 defeated SD Raiders Futsal 4

A last-minute stunner from Mia Conners has helped Raiders Futsal Club secure a 5-4 success against SD Raiders Futsal Club last night at Thomas Hassel Anglican College.

SD Raiders Futsal got off to a fast start with Mikala Tucker and Vesna Milivojevic scoring within the first seven minutes of the contest. Raiders Futsal Club responded through Tasmin Buchanan and Erin Leah Tavares to make it 2-2 at the break.

A quickfire double shot from Sophia Hamilton and Mia Conners on the half hour mark put Raiders Futsal Club in front for the first time before experienced SD Raiders Futsal campaigner Catherine Cannuli in her maiden bow for the season made it 4-4.

Enter Conners again. The clock had ticked into the final minute at Thomas Hassell with both side’s looking for the final blow to take all three points. Conners popped up in the right spot for Raiders Futsal Club to make it 5-4 and take the spoils.
