Round 4 Futsal Preview – Premier League 2 Open Men’s
Round four has thrown up some interesting clashes for the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Mens competition which should go a long way to determining the contenders or the pretenders. This week’s Match of the Round heads to Redfern for Sydney Futsal Club vs South Coast Taipans.
Match of the Round: Sydney Futsal Club vs South Coast Taipans, Saturday 12 October, 7:20pm, National Centre of Indigenous Excellence
The South Coast Taipans head on the road for the first time this season, headed to the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence, to take on Sydney Futsal Club Saturday night.
South Coast finished off their homestand with a comfortable 5-3 result against Phoenix Futsal Club to make it six points from their opening three games. Sydney Futsal Club were put to the sword 9-1 against Dural Warriors.
Speaking after their second win of the season, Taipans coach Bobby Mazevski hoped his side would start get to be noticed as one of the contenders this season. Their performances have been fantastic and need to remain so to keep pace with a rampaging Dural to the final day.
Sydney Futsal Club have a tough fortnight with the top two sides in back-to-back games. They will be stung by their defeat last week and look to rebound with a huge scalp. Juan Da Silva has been a bright spot, the youth player who has scored in back-to-back games alongside Patrick Pace will get the home side goals.
West City Crusaders vs Sydney City Eagles, Saturday 12 October, 5:30pm, Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium
Two clubs looking to bounce back clash this weekend as West City Crusaders will take on Sydney City Eagles on Saturday night at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium.
Both sides were on the wrong side of the ledger – Crusaders fell to a late surge from SD Raiders Futsal 5-4 in a wild contest meanwhile reigning Premiers Sydney City Eagles were blown away by Raiders Futsal Club in their 7-4 result – so Saturday looms large for both sides.
Despite the loss, Crusaders were solid against SD Raiders Futsal. Benjamin Lam buzzed around the court and combined well with Kwadwo Boamah-Addai and Simon Zahra. If they can avoid a repeat of the second half they can get back in the win column.
Sydney City Eagles started off brightly this season but the last two weeks have been tough losses. Sat outside the top four, the Eagles will know a result against the Crusaders can restart their season. Matthew Trotter has been a bright spot with four goals in his last two games and their main threat.
Phoenix Futsal Club vs SD Raiders Futsal, Saturday 12 October, 6:25pm, PCYC Hornsby
Phoenix Futsal Club aim to get themselves going against a rejuvenated SD Raiders Futsal on Saturday evening down at PCYC Hornsby.
It is a sorry tale for Phoenix Futsal Club – they have a single point after their 5-3 defeat to the Taipans – now take on a buoyant SD Raiders Futsal side that secured their first win of the season in a 5-4 result against West City Crusaders.
Getting the victory monkey of their back will be relieving for SD Raiders Futsal. They showed their grit and their ability to score in bunches in coming back against the Crusaders and with their talent can start to make their move into the top four.
But for their goal difference, Phoenix Futsal Club would be propping up the competition ladder. The starts have been a problem for them this season. Against both Taipans and Sydney Futsal Club, they dug themselves a hole which were hard to climb from and while they have talented scorers like Angus Chance, if they fall behind again – it could be a long road back.
Raiders Futsal Club vs Dural Warriors, Saturday 12 October, 6:40pm, Thomas Hassell Anglican College
Coming off a pair of impressive victories, Raiders Futsal Club host competition leaders Dural Warriors in a mouth-watering contest at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Saturday night.
Raiders Futsal Club produced a fantastic all-round performance to beat last year’s Premiers Sydney City Eagles 7-4 to move into second and unbeaten. Dural Warriors kept their swashbuckling ways going with an 8-1 thumping against Sydney Futsal Club.
The Warriors have scored six, seven and eight in their three wins this season and look to be the side to beat in the Futsal Premier League 2 this year. Dural has so much firepower across the court and it will be a good test for the home side against a futsal powerhouse.
Regarding Raiders Futsal Club, Saturday night represents a good opportunity to test themselves. They remain undefeated with plenty of goals flying in. Tomas Medimurac and Adam Voloder are two of their main threats but it will take a whole team performance against the Warriors in an entertaining game.
