Round 4 Preview – Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s
This weekend marks the first month of the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition so we’re starting to see the landscape form. The top four are knitted close together with the chasing pack not far behind so the four games this weekend will be instructive for the destination of the top four.
Match of the Round: Sydney Futsal Club vs South Coast Taipans, Saturday 12 October, 6:20pm, National Centre of Indigenous Excellence
South Coast Taipans make the trip to the city to take on Sydney Futsal Club in this weekend’s Match of the Round at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence.
The Taipans continued their strong start to the season with comfortable 3-1 result against Phoenix Futsal Club to remain unbeaten. Sydney Futsal Club were grounded after their 9-1 loss to Dural Warriors at The Centre last weekend.
Defense has been the backbone of the Taipans work thus far. They were a whisker away from three straight clean sheets but a late goal put paid to that. South Coast then have the firepower to rattle the cage once they frustrate sides led by Danielle Wise and Danika Matos.
Sydney Futsal Club barring last weekend’s result has started well. Sat mid-table, they can rebound and take a big scalp if possible. They spread their scoring around and if they can prise open the Taipans defense, we could be in for an entertaining contest.
West City Crusaders vs Sydney City Eagles, Saturday 12 October, 4:30pm, Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium
Sixth takes on eighth as West City Crusaders welcome Sydney City Eagles to Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium in a game both sides will target on Saturday night.
This weekend represents a chance of redemption for both sides – Crusaders were thrashed 8-2 by a rampant SD Raiders Futsal. For the Eagles, they were beaten 4-1 by Raiders Futsal Club and remain rock bottom.
Once they got through the initial onslaught, Crusaders created enough to show they won’t be an easy beat this season. Dione King and Erin Hill were bright alongside Jo Thorley which should allow them to find the back of the net on the weekend.
For the Eagles, the only way is up! Three straight defeats has them in eighth but they have a chance to rectify that on Saturday night. So we’re set up for an intriguing contest in the west to see who can move up the ladder.
Phoenix Futsal Club vs SD Raiders Futsal, Saturday 12 October, 5:25pm, PCYC Hornsby
SD Raiders Futsal look to continue their smooth start to the season with a trip to PCYC Hornsby to take on a struggling Phoenix Futsal Club on Saturday.
The visitors made a big statement with their 8-2 result against West City Crusaders which has them solid in third position just behind Warriors and Taipans. Phoenix Futsal Club fell 3-1 to South Coast Taipans as their slow start continued.
After success at home, SD Raiders Futsal take their free-scoring act on the road to Hornsby. Jami-lee Mussett scored the pick of their goals last weekend with a rifled finish but the key component for SD Raiders Futsal has been the ability to score throughout the side.
Phoenix Futsal Club has shown in bursts they can hang with other sides. In Isabel Gomez and Naomi Majok, they have attackers to finish the chances, they just need to turn them into goals then victories to move themselves up.
Raiders Futsal Club vs Dural Warriors, Saturday 12 October, 5:40pm, Thomas Hassell Anglican College
We have an exciting clash to play out at Thomas Hassell Anglican College with leaders Dural Warriors headed south-west to take on Raiders Futsal Club.
Both sides come into the game in fine form – Raiders Futsal Club eased to a 4-1 result against Sydney City Eagles to move within a point of the top meanwhile Dural Warriors swept aside Sydney Futsal Club 9-1 – so we’re set for a clash between two of the powerhouses in women’s futsal.
Raiders Futsal Club got rid of one tough opponent in Boomerangs FS but now have a battle with Dural Warriors to contend with for the top honours. They are flying after their pair of wins and look to be back to the side that was a tough task last season, so we’re set for a big game.
For the visitors, it has been goals, goals and more goals. Dural has plundered 15 goals in two games after their opening weekend stalemate and take on their biggest test this season. Rachel Perrins leads the way for them with six goals as the Warriors aim to remain unbeaten.
