Round 6 was filled with drama headlined by a top four clash in our Match of the Round and a pair of excellent contests which saw the fight for the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Mens finals positions that much closer. Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: South Coast Taipans 3 drew with Raiders Futsal Club 3

South Coast Taipans left it late to take a share of the points in a 3-3 draw against Raiders Futsal Club on Saturday night down at UOW Sports Hub.

The Taipans remain in the top four after the result. It looked rosy for them after the first half where they lead 2-1 after strikes from Klime Sekutkoski and Rick Goodchild. Taipans showed their grit in the last-minute comeback that gets them going again for a game to forget last weekend.

Raiders Futsal Club continued their solid form with the point. That keeps them in third position and the goals from Adam Voloder in the first then second half finishes from sharpshooter Adolph Koudakpo and Marko Filipovic looked enough to see out the game but Raiders Futsal Club had to settle for a point in the top four clash.

In a game between two top four sides, the action started thick and fast. An errant pass from the Taipans allowed Christopher Godoy-Bascur for Raiders Futsal Club to poke one wide of the post. It was almost the perfect start for the visitors.

Raiders Futsal Club built on their fast start with a wonderful move for the opening goal. Godoy-Bascur got the movement started and fed the ball to Adam Voloder who cut inside and thrashed home for 1-nil Raiders.

Taipans almost found an instant response. Rick Goodchild and Kristian Sekutkoski combined for Goodchild to arrow wide. The home side would find an equaliser a minute later in the furious opening exchanges.

Klime Sekutkoski produced a solo effort to level the contest. He intercepted the pass which allowed the attacker to stride confidently and tuck his right-footed effort inside the post making it 1-1.

The chances continue to swing between the two sides. Marko Filipovic had the best chance for Raiders Futsal Club after a cushioned ball from Adolph Koudakpo then for Taipans had a pair of efforts from Tyson Black and Kyle Del denied by the Raiders keeper.

Headed into the break, Taipans found some late sting in the tail. Mitchell Ferraro and Klime Sekutkoski started the counter which ended with a low effort from Rick Goodchild into the back of the net, 2-1 at the buzzer.

It might have felt like Groundhog Day for Taipans as they were behind again early in the second half from a bright Raiders Futsal Club side. Jovan Miladinovic went close but moments later Miladinovic slalomed through again to feed Koudakpo for 2-2.

Zachary Mazevski tried to respond for Taipans again as he sliced through the Raiders Futsal Club defense but was pulled back for a free-kick. The resulted set piece was blocked.

Raiders Futsal Club broke quickly from the set piece and Nicholas Marco sprung free to set up Voloder who angled his shot wide. The visitors were finding joy on the counter and it resulted in their third goal in the 39th minute.

Miladinovic was central to the action again, his combination with Marko Filipovic opened up the Taipans defense and the ball was on the foot of Filipovic to fire home at close range, 3-2 Raiders Futsal Club.

Needing to push forward to get back into the contest. Taipans continued to stroke the ball around confidently and in the 46th minute, the ball fell to Klime Sekutkoski to thrash the ball wide of the goalmouth.

Their pressure paid off in the final minute. Another slick passing move paid off with Goodchild’s right footed effort nestled into the bottom corner, 3-3 and the two sides were forced to share the points after a pulsating contest.

Speaking afterwards Taipans coach Bobby Mazevski was delighted to take a point from the contest but also was disappointed in the second half performance:

“It is the same story for us each week. We have a strong first half then we lack the concentration and killer instinct. Today we showed some good character to come back to grab a point when that hasn’t been the case in the past. Again, it is the case of what could’ve been for us.” said Mazevski.

For the Raiders Futsal Club coach he was happy to take a point from the contest but remained cautiously optimistic about the performance from his side:

“The boys worked really hard tonight. I thought we should’ve taken the three points but I’ll take one away from home against Taipans. Our movement when we lost the ball was slow but otherwise, it was a solid attacking performance.” he said.
