Match of the Round: Sydney Futsal Club 2 defeated by Dural Warriors 7

The streak rolled on for Dural Warriors in a comfortable 7-2 success against Sydney Futsal Club at All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre in this week’s Match of the Round.

Dural Warriors are looking to go through the season undefeated after their latest success. Ahmed Sweedan headlined the result with his hat-trick while a pair of strikes from Wade Giovenali took his tally to 21 for the season. Brendan Hoyer and Nathan Niski both scored in a tenth successive win.

Sydney Futsal Club might have been blown away in the first half but the dogged side found two consolation goals in the second stanza. Alexander Euripdou’s fierce strike and Anthony Musumesci bundled home effort gave them some fight despite a red card to Garen Douzian early in the half.

Dural wasted no time in asserting their dominance where Wade Giovenali weaved past several Sydney Futsal Club defenders before his low strike was deflected past the keeper making it 1-nil to the visitors after 60 seconds.

Sydney responded quickly through Alexander Nicolosi. The attacker has been in a purple patch of form and had his strong effort strike the frame of the goal. Next Anthony Musumeci flicked a header over as the home side tried to fire back.

The Warriors absorbed those efforts and quickly made it 3-nil. Ahmed Sweedan opened up space well before he rolled home for 2-nil then Nathan Niski finished off a well worked Dural effort to score their third goal after ten minutes.

They continued to push forward with Carlos De Oliveira having an effort fly over then Sweedan made it a brace with a low effort after the free-kick was laid off well and it was 4-nil Dural.

Just before the break, Sydney had an effort denied at close range from Alexander Euripdou then Dural flew down the other end to make it a five-star first half when Brendan Hoyer swept home from good work by Giovenali.

Dural brought the same energy to the start of the second stanza. They worked the wall across the court with precision, waited for the opening and struck the post thrice in quick succession. Warriors showed the hunger despite being down on numbers to push forward.

The home side remained positive, worked a chance through Musumeci and Michael Marjanovic with the latter hooked the ball over the crossbar. Sydney went to the powerplay to generate some attack but it left the door open for Dural.

When offered, Dural don’t need many chances to score. After the powerplay broke down, Giovenali walked the ball into the back of the net for 6-nil.

Sydney did find a payoff for their endeavor with two quickfire goals. Musumeci fired at goal which trickled across the line to make it 6-1 then Euripdou thrashed home a strong effort to reduce the deficit to five.

Ahmed Sweedan completed his hat-trick and another professional performance from Dural Warriors in the 45th minute. Sydney surged forward again but the play broke down allowing the attacker to sweep home for 7-2.

Talking afterwards, a delighted Rob Varela, the Dural Warriors coach remarked on the spirit of the side in their quest to go through the season unbeaten:

“The boys were focused and want to go through the season undefeated. We were missing a few boys tonight but they were good tonight. We’ve had a lot of interruptions but I know come game day that the boys will pull through.” said Varela.
