Football NSW is pleased to announce that this year’s Female Football Week will be held during the period 1st May to the 10th 2020.

Football NSW have long been the major pioneers of Female Football Week having introduced this exciting initiative in 2014 which coincided with Mother’s Day.

The event has since evolved in a national celebration celebrating International Women’s Day from 2016.

Female Football Week is always a highly anticipated week within the Football NSW calendar as we recognise and celebrate the importance of females within all aspects of the sport.

Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge was eagerly anticipating the week and was excited to see all elite and grassroots clubs getting behind this wonderful initiative.

“Female Football Week is a fantastic time of year which allows the sport to recognise and honour all the wonderful aspects of the game from playing, coaching, refereeing, volunteering and administration and the key roles females have played within these areas.

“Over the years, the support for the Female game has grown with player numbers continually increasing year upon year nationally.

“In 2018 we saw a 12.19% increase in female participants while in 2019 we saw a further 3.53% increase which emphasises the huge importance of this annual event.”

In 2019, Football NSW saw an increase in associations and clubs taking part in Female Football Week putting on their own events as well as connecting them with their communities.

Football NSW’s Head of Women’s Football Hayley Todd believes that these celebrations will attract more females to not only the designated events, but more importantly to the sport.

“In 2019, Football NSW had over 40 registered events from both Metropolitan and Regional Associations and Clubs.

“We anticipate another solid showing in 2020 with the internal organising committee in conjunction with our Women’s Standing Committee here at Football NSW structuring events to cater to various aspects of our game.

“This year’s celebratory week coincides with Mother’s Day in 2020, which we hope will encourage clubs to jump on board as many did so last year.”

Football NSW will also provide support to Football Federation Australia during the Hyundai A-League/Westfield W-League Female Football Round (8th March – 15th March) and help drive registrations, featuring female participation during the Play Football Round.

FFA’s national Female Football Awards will continue to be announced on 8 March 2019, International Women’s Day.
