Around the Grounds @ Birchgrove Oval

It doesn’t get any better than this does it? Today’s instalment of Around the Grounds showcases Canterbury District Soccer Football Association side Balmain & District Football Club showing off one of its seven pitches it utilises, but to us is by far their finest, namely the iconic Birchgrove Oval.

Its location is simply spectacular. Imagine playing our beautiful game with the backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge as your setting? Well that’s what you get when you play at Birchgrove Oval.

Located on the waterfront of Sydney Harbour, the Oval was one of the first publicly developed parks in Sydney and is known as being one of the Inner West Council’s premier sports and recreation venues.

Hosting a number of sports such as Rugby League and Cricket, the football department sees Balmain & District FC hosting its matches at the Oval.

Established in 1970, Balmain DFC has developed into one of the largest community football clubs in Australia with over 2,500 players. A volunteer-driven community club that encourages participation and celebrates achievement at all levels, Balmain DFC covers both male and female players and ranges from 4-year-old Tiny Tigers to its Over 45s teams. The club was also one of the first clubs to introduce an All Abilities team, catering for children with special needs.
