Arncliffe Aurora and Banksia Tigers show solidarity in Beirut tragedy

They may be rivals on the field in the St George Football Association but off it both Arncliffe Aurora and Banksia Tigers have expressed its sadness in the recent horrific event that occurred in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Wednesday morning.

As a show of tremendous solidarity between the two clubs whom both share a rich Lebanese culture within both camps, Sam Hassan, President of Arncliffe Aurora and Hassan Chebli, President of Banksia Tigers released this statement to its member base in light of the tragedy that unfolded in Beirut.

“It is with heavy hearts that we issue this joint statement in relation to the devastating situation in Beirut, Lebanon.

“As seen in the media, a large explosion has occurred in the Port area of Beirut. An explosion that has sent shockwaves, not just in the Lebanese Capital but across the world. This has resulted in approximately 100 deaths and over 3000 injuries (correct at time of statement issue).

“Reports also indicate that the country’s wheat reserves, and medical supplies have been heavily impacted.

“In light of the catastrophic event that took place, Arncliffe Aurora FC and Banksia Tigers FC hereby duly express our sincerest condolences to all the families of the martyrs and wish all the injured a speedy recovery inshallah.

“The Lebanese people are once again facing a huge calamity and we ask our family and friends to open their hearts and help the charity organisations that are currently coordinating much needed aid for those affected.
