Andrew Montgomery appointed Blacktown Spartans FC Men’s Senior Coach

National Premier Leagues 2 NSW Men’s outfit Blacktown Spartans FC have appointed Andrew Montgomery as its First Grade Men’s Coach for the remainder of the season.

Montgomery has held various head coaching roles at NPL NSW Men’s clubs, his most recent as the Under 20’s Coach at Blacktown City FC and he was previously the Senior Assistant Coach at Spirit FC.

“We had a very high calibre of coaching talent apply for the role and the Board felt with Andrew’s experience, coaching results and philosophy’s he was the standout candidate, and he will continue the Clubs’ high value of integrity and inclusiveness in football development,” said Spartans FC Chairman Bill Owen.

“Andrew has been an NPL NSW Men’s League winner, an NPL NSW Men’s Grand Final winner, he has a proven track record of high achievement, transitioning younger players into first grade environments and transitioning players from NPL into the A League.

“This has been the direction of Spartans FC since I have been Chairman and the Board agreed that Andrew was the right fit for our Club. Only this season Lachie Rose transitioned from our First Grade squad to new A League outfit the Macarthur Bulls and we hope to nurture such talent in the seasons ahead.

“Spartans FC would like to thank former Coach Brett Hewit for his time and dedication to the 1st Grade Squad and the Club for the past three seasons, the Board and Management wish him and his family well for their future endeavours.”

“l have a lot of hard yards to do and I am looking forward to the challenge of working with the 1st Grade squad. My philosophy is to work hard, stay humble and play for the guy next to you.

“It is a joy working with talented young players and in my previous roles I have been lucky to be able to do that. Spartans FC fosters young talent, so I look forward to growing careers within our program and attracting young talented players that want to get their start and transition to higher levels.”

With the Spartans FC Under 20s on top of the NPL 2 NSW Men’s ladder, the 1st Grade team will look to turn their season around in the remaining 13 rounds of the NPL 2 NSW Men’s competition. They currently stand two wins outside of the Top 4 and will look to build some consistency in their results with the talented squad at Montgomery’s disposal.

The first step in the turnaround will be in Round 5 of the FFA Cup to be played tomorrow night at Blacktown Football Park against ESFA Premier League team the Glebe Gorillas.
