A courageous ten-man Marconi Stallions and Hakoah FC both progressed to Round 7 of the FFA Cup after winning their respective Round 6 Preliminary fixtures on a cold and wet Tuesday evening in Sydney.

Christie Park saw National Premier Leagues 2 NSW Men’s outfit NWS Spirit FC battle top tier side Marconi Stallions and it was Peter Tsekenis’ squad that proved too strong with a huge confidence boosting 2-0 victory. The Stallions put their indifferent NPL NSW Men’s results behind them with club captain Marko Jesic the hero notching up a double. Jesic hit the back of the net in the 42nd and 79th minute as he steered his side to victory. Things looked tough when Giorgio Speranza was given his marching orders in the 64th minute but the Stallions hung on for a big win that pushed the former NSL giants one win away from reaching the FFA Cup’s Round of 32.

Hensley Athletic Field played host to a cracking affair as NPL 2 NSW Men’s side Hakoah FC needed extra-time to defeat NPL 3 NSW Men’s outfit Canterbury Bankstown FC 4-1. James Demetriou opened the scoring as early as the 3rd minute of the game before the visitors equalised with three minutes remaining before the full-time whistle blew for extra-time. The game looked destined for penalties but it was attacker Dom Cox and two late penalties from Bruno Mendes and club captain Yianni Spyrakis that put Luka Hrzina’s side one step closer to a round of 32 place.
