It was a stunning performance via the Football St George’s football family as Forest Rangers FC hosted its most successful annual fundraising Gala Event, the Richo Cup that took place at Gannons Park on Monday 14th of June.

Having kick-started the event in 2015, the Richo Cup was set up as a special day to honour and remember a great club member and passionate advocate for our sport, Forest Rangers FC’s late Matt Richardson who sadly passed away while playing the game he loved in 2014.

The aim was to raise money to purchase defibrillators for all 24 football clubs in the Football St George Association.

This was achieved the first year after the football association chipped in with half the money.

Money raised from the day since then has gone to St George Hospital’s Cardiology and Coronary Care Unit and the Heartbeat of Football charity.

The 2021 version brought out the best in everyone as a massive $21,000 was raised as a number of Football St George clubs participated in the round robin knock-out competition for both men and women as donations were generously made throughout the day as well as a huge amount of raffle tickets sold for a good cause.

The funds will now purchase an urgently needed ECG machine for the St George Hospital Cardiac and Coronary Care Unit valued at $14,080 with an additional $7,000 going to the Heartbeat of Football to continue their wonderful work in heart health testing and education.

Well done to everyone involved in what was a fantastic day for the sport.
