It’s been billed as one of the feature fixtures of the Round of 32 FFA Cup as proud NPL NSW Men’s club Sydney Olympic tackle A-League giants Sydney FC in a juicy match-up that many football lovers will be talking about.

One of Sydney Olympic’s main men and 100 plus gamer, towering defender Tom Whiteside was eagerly anticipating this massive clash against the Sky Blues.

“This match against Sydney FC is a really exciting opportunity for the team and the club,” Whiteside stated to Football NSW.

“With such a young squad and more emphasis on the future, it will be a great game to streamline the development of some or our exciting young players.

“As a team, we will be fired up and prepared as best we can to cause the upset against one of the best teams in Australia.

“This game means a lot for the whole Olympic family for a lot of reasons. It’s a chance for the fans to come out and support the team and create a fantastic atmosphere.

“For the young players in the club, it’s a chance for them to see their first-grade team play against some of their idols and role models.”

The 26-year-old does however share a bond with the Sky Blues, holding down an assistant coach’s role to Ante Juric for the club’s W-League squad.

“Having a connection with both clubs makes this game more interesting.

“I have the upmost respect for both clubs but obviously playing the game with Olympic I will be doing everything I possibly can to win the game.”
