APIA ready for Tigers FC FFA Cup Challenge
Tough tackling defender Josh Symons is licking his lips on what will be a tasty FFA Cup Round of 32 encounter as APIA Leichhardt travel to the Nation’s capital to tackle ACT outfit Tigers FC on Wednesday 24th of November at Viking Park.
Preparations have commenced for Symons and co who hope they can push for a good run in this year’s FFA Cup.
“Preparations have gone really well; we have started to get back into the swing of things and starting to click as a group again,” Symons stated to Football NSW.
“As a team we started around mid-October when the restrictions eased however the club has worked really hard with our Strength and conditioning coach ‘Steli’ to ensure all players had training programs to keep fit during lockdown which seems to have worked as everyone is looking and feeling great.
“We had our first trial last weekend against the Newcastle Jets which went really well for a first hit out – give us another 2-3 weeks and we will be back at 100%.”
One man Symons hopes will make an instant impact with the club will be APIA’s prized new recruit, American born striker Jason Romero.
He, along with Yianni Nicolaou, Walter Scott and Jack Armson will be the new faces APIA hope will assist in bringing back the all-important victory to Sydney and a Round of 16 FFA Cup spot.
“The new boys have really made an effort to be a part of this squad on and off the pitch which is what APIA is all about.
“We are more than just a team on the field, we are a family off it and welcome all of the new players into our culture.
“They are adapting really well and I am confident will play a huge role in us progressing to the next stages of the Cup.”
The squad will be travelling to Wanniassa via coach the morning of the match, will have lunch and then prepare for the all-important FFA Cup match which Symons stated means a great deal for the proud club and its avid supporters.
“The FFA Cup is Massive for APIA as is any silverware. If it is available to win we have our eyes on it regardless who we are playing against.
“We want to win it all however the FFA Cup gives us the chance to show our club on the National stage and compete against the best teams across Australia which is what APIA is striving for when the National Second Division is introduced.
“Great form and results in the FFA Cup will give us a leg up to achieve selection into the Second division.
“We encourage as many fans as possible to tune in and watch the game as I am not 100% sure about what restrictions are in place for fans to attend at the moment. The moment those restrictions are lifted however, I ask as many of you as possible to get down and support us, it really is appreciated by all of the players and staff.
