Cholakian dreaming of Sky Blues scalp
Sydney Olympic FC’s diminutive attacking midfielder Brendan Cholakian would love nothing more than to see he and his fellow Blues troops led by coach Ante Juric claim the scalp of five-time A-League Champions Sydney FC when the two meet in a massive FFA Cup Round of 32 clash on Wednesday 24th of November at Belmore Sports Ground.
The 28-year-old stated to Football NSW that preparations have commenced with Olympic set to unearth five of its new 2022 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s signings one being former A-League ace marksman and Irishman Roy O’Donovan.
“Preparations have gone really well so far.
“The team went back to training the first day we could post lockdown, but each player worked hard during the lockdown period to remain fit and raring to go.
“We’ve recruited really well for the upcoming NPL NSW Men’s season and it’s a huge bonus that we can use these players against Sydney FC.
“Each are very talented footballers but most importantly great lads which has allowed them to fit straight into the group.
“The chemistry is already developing really quickly on the field as well as off the field with the entire group.
“Roy is a huge addition, obviously being a full-time professional his whole career, not only is he bringing in incredible pedigree, he brings in a wealth of experience that will really help our squad win difficult games and help develop our young core over the year.
“Since coming in, Roy has shown his quality and I am sure he will have a big season for us, score plenty of goals, create chances and help us win many games hopefully starting with this match against Sydney FC.
“He’s a top bloke and has already fitted in really well with the squad.”
Joining O’Donovan on the Blues’ new list of recruits are Mathieu Cordier, Sam McIllhatton, Emmanuel Peters and Niko Ujdur all of which could play a pivotal role in their clash against Steve Corica’s men.
A club steeped rich with history as well as passion, Cholakian is hoping to see a huge uptake of parochial Olympic fans come out in their droves at Belmore Sports Ground to support the former NSL giants to victory.
“I feel like I don’t have to say much to encourage fans to support us for this game because we already have such a passionate fan base, I’m sure they do not need any further motivation to get down and cheer us on. However, one message to the fans I would say is that, with them behind us, us as players get such a boost, they become our 12th man and we need all their support to help us get the victory over Sydney FC.
“In addition, its games like this that offer the potential to create a memorable night for everyone involved at Sydney Olympic and that’s something I am sure no Olympic fan will want to miss out on. So please come down and support us lads as we will put on a brilliant performance and hopefully come away with the victory in front of them.
“The FFA Cup means so much to the club as it is a huge opportunity to demonstrate once again what a huge club Sydney Olympic is and how we can compete with the very best in Australia.
“It also gives the club an opportunity to get some recognition and reward for the effort that everyone puts in at the club on an ongoing basis.”
