Eastern Suburbs Football Association clubs Coogee United and Dunbar Rovers will be playing a special Charity Football match on Saturday 4th of December Heffron Park Synthetic Pitch (10am) in memory of well admired local footballer Daniel Murphy.

Dan Murphy, for those that played with him, was a joy. For those that played against him, he was an absolute nightmare.

The only part of his game that exceeded his work rate was his ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Close range, long range, on the wing or down the middle, his class was evident for everyone to see.

In completely unexpected circumstances, Dan passed away recently at the young age of 29 years old.

Being such a healthy active lad makes his passing so much more sudden and harder to take.

Having moved to Australia in 2016, Dan instantly looked to join a football team to show off his talent ‘Down Under’ and Dunbar Rovers was where he was an instant success. A

After travelling around Australia he came back to Sydney and found his home at Coogee United where he picked up trophy after trophy for individual and team accolades.

The special Charity Match has been organised to honour Dan.

There will be a BBQ and a raffle with a lot of amazing prizes on offer.

The event for the day will be in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. This is a trust that aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating the body (bodies) of loved one(s) who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances back to Ireland. They helped Dan’s family and friends massively and went above and beyond what was expected to aid getting him back to Ireland safely and quickly.

Thankfully, the community around Dan enabled him to be repatriated on the money raised directly for him.

However, there are many other families who aren’t lucky enough to have this financial support and the money raised from this charity day will go straight to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust to aid those people not as fortunate.

If anyone would like to buy any tickets for the raffle please contact Ben on 0488960352.
