It wasn’t just the players, coaches and spectators that enjoyed the Bathurst Cup experience last weekend, it was also the 50-strong rising young NSW referees that took charge of over 214 matches across the two-days of football.

The experience of not only officiating matches but also being involved in a training camp environment where each referee received feedback from referee coaching experts who assess on the A-Leagues and the NPL was a great learning tool for each young participant involved.

The tournament also brought together match officials from across NSW giving each referee the opportunity to meet and work with new people as well as gaining new friendships and contacts.

Referees also received technical training prior to the tournament on the Laws of the Game.

“The attitude and effort of the group was a credit to the referees,” said Football NSW’s Referee Education Coordinator Rob Nieuwenhuis.

“The training camp environment was a great opportunity for referees to learn, not only from their coaches but from each other, and we were really proud of the performances of the group.”

Next up is the Proctor Park Challenge taking place at Bathurst this weekend with limited spaces available for referees – any referees interested can complete the nomination form by clicking here.
