Football Australia has confirmed the slot allocations for the Final Rounds of the Australia Cup 2022 with Football NSW to have four teams represented at this year’s prestigious Knockout Cup competition.

Member Federations around the nation have been advised of the allocations for this year’s Round of 32, with one Member Federation (Football Victoria) awarded one additional slot when compared to the FFA Cup 2021.

The National Premier Leagues (NPL) Finals Series was unfortunately not held in 2021 due to COVID-19, meaning that there was one additional slot was available to be assigned to a Member Federation for the Australia Cup 2022.

Based on a framework that measured and considered both Club Entrant Data and Historical Club Performance in the FFA Cup (now Australia Cup), it has been determined that Victoria will be awarded an additional slot in the Final Rounds of the Australia Cup this year.

The data analysed between 2014 and 2021 demonstrated that Victorian Member Federation clubs have historically performed best in the FFA Cup, while the State has averaged over 200 club entrants per edition of the competition over the past seven years (the highest percentage of senior clubs of any Member Federation).

The decision to award Football Victoria one additional berth in the Final Rounds of the Australia Cup is for 2022 only. The slot will return to Football Australia in 2023 and be contemplated alongside the National Second Tier discussion and development.

Football NSW will commence its push for 2022 Australia Cup action with the Preliminary Rounds 2 and 3 Draws to be shown on Football NSW’s official Facebook page on Friday 25th of February at 5pm so keep a close eye out on that.
