Walking Football set to kick-off at Cromer Park
Manly Warringah Football Association is launching a new social, small-sided Walking Football season in 2022 with a ‘Come Try Day’ scheduled for Friday 29th of April at Cromer Park.
Following the ‘Come Try Day’, the official Walking Football season will commence on the 6th of May and concluded on the 26th of August in what will be a huge year for the sport within the football mad region.
MWFA have expressed its excitement with the announcement of the season.
“This community event has been long awaited by MWFA as it was first planned in 2020 but the season was cut short due to COVID and renovations to Cromer Park,” said a MWFA spokesperson.
“The game of Walking Football is designed to improve both physical and mental health in a more controlled environment where the social and well-being aspects are emphasised.
“We want to promote players’ self-esteem, confidence and friendships in the older community and walking football is a great platform to achieve this in the Manly Warringah area.
“We look forward to giving back to our greater community and to cater for footballers of all ages.”
Walking Football is low-impact, team-based exercise, utilising the defined ‘Walking Football Rules and Formats’ specifically non-contact with the players ‘always having one foot on the ground’.
Matches are played with modified formats (4v4/5v5/6v6) on smaller pitches with shortened game times and smaller goals.
Walking Football aims to provide participants physical & mental health benefits, social contentedness and promotion of the benefits of ongoing physical activity.
Manly FA’s Walking Football program is aimed at individuals over 45 years of age.

Season runs for 16 weeks. (No games on the 3rd of June 2022)
A registration form will be provided for new players to complete for insurance purposes before games each week.
