Bonnyrigg White Eagles’ inspirational skipper Goran Šubara is eagerly anticipating the club’s Australia Cup Round of 32 clash against high flying NPL Victorian side Oakleigh Cannons at the Bonnyrigg Sports Club this Thursday evening.

The experienced defender knows the quality the Cannons posses as they currently sit in second position in Victoria’s top tier NPL but with it being a one-off match, the White Eagles will be throwing every inch of strength in achieving a positive result in defeating their much-fancied opponents.

“The club and players are really looking forward to this big match against the Oakleigh Cannons.

“The reaction to drawing them was a positive one amongst the playing group, we were happy to get the home game in front of our loyal fans and the plus side is we don’t have to travel.

“Looking at our opponents, they’re doing well in the top tier NPL in Victoria currently sitting in second spot.

“They’re an experienced team that’s been together for a while and they’ve got a good coaching setup as well.

“At the end of the day its one game so we are of course going to back ourselves and we are confident of a positive result in front of our vocal fans to take us through to the Round of 16.”

The 35-year-old who played for several years in Asia before returning to his boyhood club in 2018 will hope the likes of fellow stars such as Aaron Peterson, Sam Gallaway, Asmir Kadric, Bradie Smith and new inclusion Jared Lum can stun the visitors.

The White Eagles coached by Franco Cosentino will need to have their eyes on Cannons ace attacker Wade Dekker who has already hit 14 goals in the top tier NPL Victoria thus far.

He along with Joseph Knowles, Joe Guest, Chris Lucas, Matthew Foschini and Oliver Kubilay will be ones to watch out for on Thursday evening.

Form wise Chris Taylor’s men will be wanting to bounce back to form following their 1-0 loss to current NPL Victoria League leaders South Melbourne on Saturday while the White Eagles will be in a buoyant mood following their 3-1 victory over the SD Raiders.

This will be the Bonnyrigg White Eagles’ third Round of 32 Cup journey following its two stints in 2016 and 2018.
