NWS Spirit FC’s captain fantastic Grant Cornwell is hoping the club’s recent achievement of gaining promotion into the 2023 NPL NSW Men’s competition is set to motivate his troops in the side’s much anticipated Round of 32 encounter against Football Queensland NPL side Peninsula Power next Wednesday at the AJ Kelly Park in Kippa-Ring.

The League One outfit hailing from the North West of Sydney and led by coach David Perkovic will be competing in its first ever Australia Cup journey and no doubt scored a great trip away from the “Arctic Circle” aka Christie Park in what will be warmer conditions up in Queensland.

“It’s going to be a huge match for us as a club and we cannot wait to compete against the Peninsula Power next Wednesday,” the 31-year-old tough tackling defender stated to Football NSW.

“This has been something that we have been driving towards for a while and we cannot wait to experience this in what will be a tough match against a top four Football Queensland NPL side.”

Perkovic will call upon his chargers with ace marksman Goffry Lino, Michael Konestabo, Richie Darko and Musashi Kokubo to name a few that will be out to ruin Power’s Australia Cup party.

Coached by Rick Coghlan, the Power will be relying on the likes of stars such as keeper and former Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Sutherland Sharks gloveman Phil Zabaks, Anthony Poljak, Brenton Fox, Brodie Boyce and Malakai Love-Semira to name a few.

“We know we are in for a tough match, but we’ve been training really hard and playing each week as if it’s been a final so we will give it all that we can to do the best in continuing our journey in the Australia Cup.

“Given that we are playing away from home, we will be hearing our supporters via social media as they’ve been great throughout the whole season and we don’t want them to stop, we appreciate their messages of support, and we know they’ll all be tuning in on match day live on Channel 10.”

The club will also have eyes on the Waratah Cup Final as they face NPL NSW Men’s side Sydney United 58 a few days after their Cup match on Sunday 7th of August so a big week of football awaits the NWS Spirit FC club.
