Update: Western Sydney Wanderers FC spectator incidents

Football NSW provides this update on its investigation into repeated incidents involving the ignition of flares and fireworks by spectators at Western Sydney Wanderers FC (WSW) Football NSW League One matches during the 2022 Premiership season.

Following its investigation into these incidents, Football NSW has imposed the following sanctions on WSW:

  • A fine of $6,500; and
  • Deduction of 6 Competition Points for the WSW First Grade team (3 of those Competition Points suspended for the balance of the 2022 season).

Football NSW acknowledges that since the last incident occurred, WSW have taken significant pro-active steps to avoid any reoccurrence at their matches.

The safety and wellbeing of all football participants, including that of spectators, remains of paramount importance. Football NSW will continue to work closely with key stakeholders to ensure football provides a safe, positive and enjoyable environment for all.
