Round 1 signaled a return to the futsal pitch for the eight teams in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition. It also brought back all the drama, goals and tense action which has become the backbone of the league. Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: SD Raiders Futsal 4 defeated by Raiders Futsal Club 6

It was a winning start to the campaign for Raiders Futsal Club in their 6-4 win against SD Raiders Futsal Club at Fairfield Youth and Community Centre on Saturday afternoon.

SD Raiders Futsal were a double act in their loss on Saturday afternoon. Sarah Mandile and Mikala Tucker both scored braces for the side which had glimpses of their brand of fustal against a tough Raiders Futsal Club side.

It was a youthful side for Raiders Futsal Club and the approach paid off. Olivia Burke was a highlight with her brace for the side while the rest of the scoring was shared around. Nicole Ossio, Sienna Jackson, Gemma Morgan and Stevie Flint were goal scorers.

The game opened in fast fashion between two sides eager to get back on the futsal court. Nicole Ossio rattled home the first goal for Raiders Futsal Club to make it 1-0.

SD Raiders Futsal responded in quick fashion. Jessica Neville hit the post with an effort before Sarah Mandile equalised with a low shot to make it 1-1.

Ossio turned provider to give Raiders Futsal Club back the lead. She weaved through the defence before she laid it off for Olivia Burke to fire home for 2-1.

The tit-for-tat nature of the contest continued as Mandile was heavily involved again. She held the ball up well before she slipped it to Mikala Tucker to arrow home for 2-2.

Before we could take a breath, Raiders Futsal Club and SD Raiders Futsal once again traded goals to make it 3-3. Gemma Morgan slotted home for Raiders Futsal while Mandile completed her brace for the hosts.

Either side of the break, Sienna Jackson and Mandile had chances to put their respective side in front but the custodians stood tall to maintain the 3-3 score line.

There was a burst of chances for SD Raiders Futsal with Mandile and Tucker both having chances close to each other, but they angled them wide of the mark.

Raiders Futsal Club put the game to bed with three quickfire goals. Burke completed her brace from another link up with Ossio before Jackson and Stevie Flint fired home to stretch the advantage to 6-3.

The game might’ve been gone but SD Raiders Futsal pulled one back late in the piece with Tucker adding her second goal to complete our 6-4 score line.

Speaking post-match Raiders Futsal Club coach Antonio Marco was delighted with the effort from his young side in their first game despite some nerves. “I thought for a first game it was very good. It is a young side with some good combination play and we’re looking forward to a nice season.” said Marco.
