NSW Metro and Country Girls kick off Championships with victories

It was a great first day of victories for our NSW Country and Metro squads in Day 1 of the National Youth Championships at Coffs Harbour.
In what were quality conditions for football, as many as 350 players from both the Under 14’s and 16’s age groups from across the nation took part in the tournaments first day of action.
The tournament got underway with the opening ceremony with First Nations elder Uncle Richard Widders giving a Welcome to Country, while Junior Matildas head coach and Football Australia Women’s Technical Advisor Rae Dower spoke on the significance of the championships.
Under 14 NSW Metro
Matias Martinez’ squad got off to a flying start defeating rivals Victoria Blue 4-1 thanks to goals from Tiana Fuller, Talia Younis, Amelia Bennett and Skye Halmarick.
The wins continued in the second match as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Northern NSW with Fuller adding to her tally with Kiara Bonora opening her account in the tournament as Amelia Cassar added a brace.
Under 14 Country NSW
Meaghan Kempson’s side finished Monday’s match with a 100% record thanks to victories over Tasmania and Capital Football.
Allyssa Ng Saad and Lily Heckenberg were the difference in their 2-1 win over Tasmania while Ng Saad got on the scoresheet for the second successive match along with Jasmine Mitchell in their 2-1 win over Capital Football.
Under 16 NSW Metro
Victoria Guzman’s troops took care of Capital Football in their first match for the tournament defeating Capital Football 3-1.
Goals to Tiana Petkovski, Caley Tallon-Henniker and Christina Kiceec proved to be the difference.
Under 16 NSW Country
Norm Boardman’s squad got off to the best possible start thanks to a 3-0 win over Tasmania in their opening clash.
A double by Isabelle Harris and one from Maddison Sawkins all but saw the three points head Country NSW’s way.
