What an intense weekend it was as Round 2 of the Futsal Premier League Open Women’s took centre stage.

UTS Northside had a statement victory, Dural Warriors joined them on the winners list and Eastern Suburbs Hakoah piped Mountain Majik in a thriller.

Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club 0 v Inner West Futsal Club 0

Don’t be fooled by the score line! Campbelltown City Quake and Inner West Futsal Club played out an entertaining scoreless draw in the early round two fixture.

In what was described as a physical outing, both sides had early chances to open the scoring in an intense end to end opening. However neither could break the deadlock before half-time with Inner West perhaps edging possession.

The second half however could be divided into two periods. Inner West the stronger in the first with Courtney Halpin having to make several good saves to keep the Quake level. Before the Quake had a chance to steal it in the final minute, hitting the post after some lovely build up play.

It makes two draws for Inner West to start the season while it was a good first hit out for the Quake who didn’t play in round one. Campbelltown next take on Eastern Suburbs Hakoah. While Inner West will be looking for their first win when they face Enfield Allstars.

Mascot Vipers 2 (Welsh 23’, Brewster 38’) v UTS Northside Futsal Club 7 (Jarvie 2’ 25’ 35’, Arrowsmith 3’, Smit 18’, Bastow 40’, Arnold 42’)

UTS Northside scored a sensational seven goals in their round two victory over Mascot Vipers in Sydney’s North-West.

It was a statement victory for UTS Northside who look to be one of the competition favourites early on. Five different goalscorers found the net in their impressive performance with Caitlin Jarvie scoring a hat-trick, Daisy Arrowsmith scoring their second inside three minutes, Hallie Smith adding the third, Emily Bastow with the sixth and Grace Arnold with the seventh.

It’s a tough result for Mascot Vipers who very much ran into a rampant opposition early in the game. Both Riley Welsh and Emily Brewster found the net for them either side of half time but they will be keen to move on from the result playing two games next weekend.

Speaking of, UTS Northside host Mountain Majik next up, while Mascot Vipers are away to Dural Warriors.

Enfield Allstars 1 (Kiparizov 45;) v Dural Warriors 4 (Perrins 1’ 12’ 32’, Hill 25’)

Dural Warriors used their momentum from their late equalizer to score an impressive win over Enfield Allstars.

In a much improved performance from last weekend, the Warriors who were missing three regular starters set a basis for their victory with their defense throughout and taking their opportunities when they came. The star of the show being Rachel Perrins who scored a hat-trick with two goals in the first half and another in the second. Skye Hill joining her on the scoresheet to make up the four.

For Enfield, it was a loss in their first game of the season as they try and familiarize themselves as a unit. Kaitlin Kiparizov scored a consolation late in the fixture and they will be better for their run out before their round three fixture next weekend.

They face Inner West next weekend while Dural Warriors have a meeting with Mascot Vipers.

Mountain Majik Futsal Club 3 (Feeney 10’ 20, Holder 44’) v Eastern Suburbs Hakoah Futsal Club 4 (Anderson 21’ 40’, Sharp 46’, Santos 49’)

Two late goals saw Eastern Suburbs Hakoah sneak past Mountain Majik in dramatic circumstances at Valentine Sports Park.

After bringing the scores back level earlier in the second half, the visitors would’ve thought the game was slipping away from them when they went behind again with six minutes left, but two goals in the last five minutes through Antonia Sharp and Marcella Santos secured a memorable comeback victory. While Zoe Anderson deserves a special shoutout for her brace earlier in the fixture.

For Mountain Majik, a first win of the season was on the cards when Clare Holder scored their third with six minutes left but they were left heartbroken by two very late goals. Amelia Feeney the other scorer in the game with a brace.

Mountain Majik face Enfield Allstars next weekend, while Eastern Suburbs Hakoah host the Quake at Morris Iemma.
