It was a fantastic moment that five rising young female Football NSW academy referees will not forget in a hurry after being invited to experience a meet and greet with FIFA referees as well as Football Australia referee elite at the recent Matildas friendly clash against Canada at Allianz Stadium.

Mia Velarde (Manly Warringah Football Referees Association), Marissa Grant (Macarthur District Football Referees Association), Charlotte Flynn (Football South Coast Referees), Siobhan Gregory (North West Sydney Football Referees Association and NSW State League Football Referees) and Alana Zic (Hills Football Referees) all got in on the experience thanks to Football Australia.

The girls had a chance to chat to the FIFA referees appointed for the Matildas v Canada match on September 6th, 2022, including Korea Republic’s Sejin Park as well as meeting FA’s Head of Referees Nathan Magill and Elite Referee Coach, Renae Coghill.

“Football NSW would like to thank Football Australia for allowing our Academy Referees to experience match day on an International friendly match,” said Football NSW’s Referee Development and Education Manager Rob Nieuwenhuis.

“A big thank you to the referee team on the night for taking time out to meet our referees and inspire them to continue working hard on their refereeing journey.”
