Round 3 & 4 Review – Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s
Futsal Premier League 2 Review – Round 3 – Open Womens
Round 3 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition was one for the visiting teams. Three of the four wins were for the away team in another pulsating set of fixtures to kick off the long weekend. Let’s get onto the review!
Match of the Round: Sydney Futsal Club 0 defeated by South Coast Taipans 2
South Coast Taipans remained unbeaten after their 2-0 win against Sydney Futsal Club at NC of Indigenous Excellence on Saturday afternoon.
Sydney Futsal Club battled hard in the game but were unable to get past a stoic defensive effort from the Taipans to take anything from the contest. They will look to their second home game of the weekend for success.
The Taipans kept the record unblemished, and it was the same for their goal, keeping their second clean sheet of the season. Ellen Brown and Abigail Jordan were the two goal scorers for the Taipans in their third win of the year.
It was a fast start for the visitors in Redfern. Both Abigail Jordan and Ursula Bratjanscak had efforts in the fourth minute which went straight the Sydney Futsal Club keeper.
Sydney Futsal Club responded with their first effort of the game. Jessica Talbot found some space and arrowed her effort over the bar.
The hosts followed that with two more efforts to try and open the scoring. Talbot again was involved in the action as Sydney Futsal Club had another shot well saved.
Taipans did open the scoring in the 16th minute. It was a good move from the visitors and it fell to Ellen Brown who rolled the ball home for 1-0.
Buoyed by their goal, Taipans continued to pepper the Sydney Futsal Club goal. Lulu Lozano, and Ashley Kotevski had their turns but unable to double the Taipans lead.
Right after the break, Sydney Futsal Club aimed to equalise. Annalise Schiraldi and Chaeli De Brincat had chances in the first 60 seconds followed up Talbot shooting wide again.
Once again, Taipans aimed to respond with their second goal. Lozano found space and rattled her shot against the post.
The visitors did extend their lead in the 42nd minute. Another good sweeping move from the Taipans ended with Abigail Jordan turning home to make it 2-0.
Sydney Futsal Club kept pushing until the final buzzer to get on the board. They had a free-kick which was turned over the bar then De Brincat flashed an effort wide.
Afterwards the Sydney Futsal Club thought it was an even contest between the two sides and the hosts might’ve taken something from it:
“We played well and I thought that we should’ve got something out of the game. Sometimes things don’t go your way and I think there was too much inconsistency.” he said.
For South Coast Taipans coach Bobby Mazevski, it was another solid performance from his team and he was delighted with another clean sheet:
“We moved the ball well, controlled the game from the outset. We didn’t create much in the first half but switched things around and created some chances. This week, we worked on our defence and I’m glad that the shots were from distance. We kept a cleen sheet which we aim to do every week.” said Mazevski.

Boomerangs FS coach Kristian Collins was happy with the win for his side and reflected on them being a talented side that can challenge the top division:
“We were in control for most of the game and deserved to win by a few more. I would like to think we are top half of PL1 quality and the challenge for us is to maintain our performance across the whole 50 minutes.” said Collins.
