Round 3 & 4 Review – Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s

Futsal Premier League 2 Review – Round 3 – Open Womens

Round 3 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition was one for the visiting teams. Three of the four wins were for the away team in another pulsating set of fixtures to kick off the long weekend. Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: Sydney Futsal Club 0 defeated by South Coast Taipans 2

South Coast Taipans remained unbeaten after their 2-0 win against Sydney Futsal Club at NC of Indigenous Excellence on Saturday afternoon.

Sydney Futsal Club battled hard in the game but were unable to get past a stoic defensive effort from the Taipans to take anything from the contest. They will look to their second home game of the weekend for success.

The Taipans kept the record unblemished, and it was the same for their goal, keeping their second clean sheet of the season. Ellen Brown and Abigail Jordan were the two goal scorers for the Taipans in their third win of the year.

It was a fast start for the visitors in Redfern. Both Abigail Jordan and Ursula Bratjanscak had efforts in the fourth minute which went straight the Sydney Futsal Club keeper.

Sydney Futsal Club responded with their first effort of the game. Jessica Talbot found some space and arrowed her effort over the bar.

The hosts followed that with two more efforts to try and open the scoring. Talbot again was involved in the action as Sydney Futsal Club had another shot well saved.

Taipans did open the scoring in the 16th minute. It was a good move from the visitors and it fell to Ellen Brown who rolled the ball home for 1-0.

Buoyed by their goal, Taipans continued to pepper the Sydney Futsal Club goal. Lulu Lozano, and Ashley Kotevski had their turns but unable to double the Taipans lead.

Right after the break, Sydney Futsal Club aimed to equalise. Annalise Schiraldi and Chaeli De Brincat had chances in the first 60 seconds followed up Talbot shooting wide again.

Once again, Taipans aimed to respond with their second goal. Lozano found space and rattled her shot against the post.

The visitors did extend their lead in the 42nd minute. Another good sweeping move from the Taipans ended with Abigail Jordan turning home to make it 2-0.

Sydney Futsal Club kept pushing until the final buzzer to get on the board. They had a free-kick which was turned over the bar then De Brincat flashed an effort wide.

Afterwards the Sydney Futsal Club thought it was an even contest between the two sides and the hosts might’ve taken something from it:

“We played well and I thought that we should’ve got something out of the game. Sometimes things don’t go your way and I think there was too much inconsistency.” he said.

For South Coast Taipans coach Bobby Mazevski, it was another solid performance from his team and he was delighted with another clean sheet:

“We moved the ball well, controlled the game from the outset. We didn’t create much in the first half but switched things around and created some chances. This week, we worked on our defence and I’m glad that the shots were from distance. We kept a cleen sheet which we aim to do every week.” said Mazevski.

Futsal Premier League 2 Review – Round 4 – Open Womens

Round 4 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens was filled with plenty of action to heat up the long weekend. Boomerangs FS remain the only undefeated team in the competition while there were wins for Sydney Futsal Club and West City Crusaders. Let’s get onto the review!

Match of the Round: Raiders Futsal Club 1 defeated by Boomerangs FS 5

Boomerangs FS maintained their unbeaten start to the year with a 5-1 win against Raiders Futsal Club at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Sunday afternoon.

It wasn’t a weekend to remember for Raiders Futsal Club with a pair of losses in their two contests. The hosts did battle hard in this game and brought it back to 4-1 when Savannah Seixas found the back of the net.

For Boomerangs FS, it was a continuation of how they have won their first three games of the Futsal Premier League 2 season. Rachael Corbett got a brace while Stella and Natalie De Marco both found the back of the net alongside Madeleine Perceval.

Both teams got into their work early in the contest. Ayla Robertson had the first chance for the visitors while Gemma Morgan forced a save for the Raiders Futsal.

Boomerangs FS were the first side to find the back of the net. Madeleine Perceval finished off a good movement to tape home and make it 1-0.

It was double delight quickly for Boomerangs FS who have shown a hunger for goals in 2022. Natalie De Marco tapped home from close range to make it 2-0.

The visitors were in complete control and made it 3-0 before the game even hit the ten-minute mark. Rachael Corbett’s purple patch went on with a good finish.

Raiders Futsal Club did pull one goal back in the 11th minute through Savannah Seixas in a furious start to the game. She fired home smartly for a 3-1 score line.

Boomerangs continued to pile up the chances to extend the lead. Perceval fired over the bar then an effort from Robertson almost deflected into the net in an open game.

It was another double shot of goals for Boomerangs FS to make it 5-1. Corbett added her second goal of the contest for the fourth then Stella De Marco added the fifth a minute later.

There were late chances for both sides to add to the score line but it remained at 5-1 at the final buzzer as Boomerangs FS remained undefeated.

It was a short but sweet chat post-match for Raiders Futsal Club coach Antonio Marco who praised the opposition as a “good outfit who they couldn’t hold out.” He added that his side will learn from this experience for the future.

Boomerangs FS coach Kristian Collins was happy with the win for his side and reflected on them being a talented side that can challenge the top division:

“We were in control for most of the game and deserved to win by a few more. I would like to think we are top half of PL1 quality and the challenge for us is to maintain our performance across the whole 50 minutes.” said Collins.

SD Raiders Futsal was unable build on their first win of the season and fell to another defeat this season. Mikala Tucker continues her strong start to the year with another goal to bring it back to 1-1 at half-time.

South Coast Taipans 1 defeated by West City Crusaders 3

Traveling down to UOW Sports Hub, West City Crusaders triumphed 3-1 against previously unbeaten South Coast Taipans on Monday afternoon.

It was the perfect weekend for West City Crusaders who took six points from both their games and rise up the ladder. Isabella Williams built on her brace with another goal alongside one from Holly Pender with the other goal being an own goal.

Taipans pulled a goal back in the second half through Lulu Lozano in a game where the hosts weren’t at their usual fluent selves. They do remain in equal first with Boomerangs FS on the FPL2 ladder headed into middle part of the season.

Sydney City Eagles 3 drew with Phoenix Futsal Club 3

Points were shared in a pulsating 3-3 draw between Sydney City Eagles and Phoenix Futsal Club at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Monday afternoon.

The hosts will be happy to add another point to their bank on a weekend and could’ve had all three if not for a last ditch save from the Phoenix keeper. Youth player Christa Olivia fired home a brace for the Eagles alongside a strike from another youth product Alessia Perre in the draw.

Phoenix Futsal Club showed a wonderful spirit to come back from 2-0 down but they did hold a lead going into the final ten minutes and couldn’t hold on. Kate Mateffy, Emma Ingerson and Ashley Limnios were the scorers for the visitors.
