In an exceptionally historic year for the club, Eastern Suburbs Football Association (ESFA) side Glebe Gorillas took out last Sunday’s epic Champion of Champions All Age Men’s Final against a tough Banksia Tigers outfit in its first ever appearance in Football NSW’s prestigious knockout cup competition.

The memorable Champion of Champions win has come off the back of the club securing the ESFA Men’s Premier League title for the first time in its 12-year history.

Throughout the four Champion of Champions matches, the Gorillas scored an astounding 23 goals and only conceded three (two of which were in the final). One of the more significant wins was their 3-0 victory over Pittwater RSL FC who won the competition multiple times previously.

Glebe displayed dominant performances throughout the competition with forwards Rupert Murray and Yoel Silvestre racking up the goals, as they did with the ESFA competition.

“The thrilling final at Valentine Sports Park has capped off an incredible year for the club,” Caroline Oakes-Ash, ESFA’s Competitions Manager stated to Football NSW.

“The Glebe Gorillas crew were brilliant representatives of our Association throughout the tournament.”

Greg Storey, ESFA Head of Competitions echoed Oakes-Ash’s sentiments.

“ESFA were competing in both the Champion of Champions Mens and Womens Finals, a mark of the strength of football in the district.”

ESFA based clubs have won the All-Age Men’s competition multiple times including wins in 2014, 2015 and 2018 which shows just how competitive the ESFA Men’s Premier League is.

The Gorillas will no doubt be doubling down to do it all again in season 2023.

Beware of the Glebe Gorillas a club on the rise.
