Raiders Futsal Club 2 defeated by SD Raiders Futsal 3

SD Raiders Futsal took out a closely fought contest 3-2 against Raiders Futsal Club at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.

Raiders Futsal Club were on the losing side but it was a fantastic display from their keeper Jasmine Crouch to deny the SD Raiders Futsal attack. Nyssa Castillo fired home either side of half-time for their goals.

This win moves SD Raiders Futsal into equal fourth in the FPL2 Open Womens competition and a real shot to play finals. Sarah Mandile opened the scoring before a wonderful solo goal from Ashlie Crofts and a Paulina Labra strike confirmed the points.

The opening of the game was a closely fought encounter between two sides that match up well with the first salvos coming from SD Raiders Futsal who couldn’t fire off a shot.

Raiders Futsal Club had the first effort of the game. Jessica Burke chased a shot which was deflected by SD Raiders Futsal custodian Caitlin Britton then blocked away by the defence.

SD Raiders Futsal started to fight their footing in the game and this time, Raiders Futsal Club’s keeper Jasmine Crouch was forced into action with a fantastic double save to keep it at 0-0.

It was the visitors who were the first on the scoresheet through Sarah Mandile. It was started by Paulina Labra who started the counter then squared the ball to Mandile for the finish, 1-0.

The hosts continued to pepper Britton with shots but it took a while to find the equaliser. Nyssa Castillo fired home just before half-time after a weaved run from Gemma Morgan to make it 1-1.

SD Raiders Futsal took the lead again just after the breakthrough Labra. Ashlie Crofts threaded through a pinpoint pass to Labra who rolled the ball home to make it 2-1.

Crofts turned from architect to striker to stretch SD Raiders Futsal advantage to 3-1. She took the ball from her own half and weaved past the Raiders Futsal Club defence to smash home.

Raiders Futsal Club set up a grandstand finish when Castillo made it double delight when she capitalised on an errant pass to sweep home and make it 3-2.

Buoyed by their goal, Raiders Futsal Club pushed forward for an equaliser but were met by a dogged SD Raiders Futsal defence who refused to have their goal breached.

It was a wonderful performance from SD Raiders Futsal custodian Britton who made some huge saves across the whole game and including the final few minutes to hold onto a huge three points for the visitors.

Huge thanks to Dominic Criniti for his help in compiling this report.
